I think I'd be more likely to be struck by lightning than getting nabbed by a Cougar, although I always carry bear spray and try to avoid hiking at dusk in the bush.
Ignore the enviro-fascists. Bring back the hunt...
Call to renew licensed grizzly bear hunting met with pushback from B.C. conservationists
B.C. Wildlife Federation wants to re-open hunt following suspected attack in Bella Coola
A call to bring back licensed grizzly bear hunting, closed in B.C. since 2017, has resurfaced after a suspected grizzly attack killed a mother and daughter near Bella Coola — but conservationists argue there’s no evidence that hunting the bears reduces conflict.
The B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) has opposed the ban since it was implemented, saying a lack of hunting would cause new generations of grizzlies to be less fearful of humans.
The group reiterated that stance this week after Jennifer Balcarras, 48, and her daughter Selah Reed, 20, were found dead near a trail just minutes from their home. It’s the second suspected grizzly bear attack near the Bella Coola community in roughly one year.
