I have been waiting for the "call" to go into BMQ(Regular). I called my recruiters office yesterday and they said that my file is being examined on whether I get the open spot in my trade (Avionics Systems Tech).

Since the Federal Budget will be released in late March, will that effect the people who are making the decision to accept me? What I mean by that is if the Budget reveals that more money is going into the Forces, can they open more spots?

Also, It does not seem like many people are applying into the Regular Air Force, they are not in this forum anyway, so why the long wait?

Don‘t forget that this is not like a normal job, your not selling t-shirts at the GAP. You will be taught how to kill people, so you think that they might want to make sure that they don‘t let a nut, or even worse a terrorist in?

one thing i can‘t understand, i keep hearing about how there is such a need for new recruits, and how few people are joining the army...so why is there a backlog?

Yeah, the Militia is out to lunch. We got 25 guys on a "waiting list" to get into the unit, and yet the Army complains about manning levels

when can you just lie? i was watching the news and they were talking about how nobody was applying and i was like "sweet!" and began to have high hopes of going to summer BMQ.

now i‘m going to have to sell shirts and other cr** to people i just want to swear at and strike.

i hate retail so much

I can think of a few reasons why it takes so long to process applications: people at CFRC being more concerned with the latest lumbar office chair in the new Office Depot catalogue than actually working on processing applications, stupid brigade and area policies which prevent more courses from being run locally (ie in the Wack), and lack of instructors.

If I end up selling sweaters at the GAP again instead of BMQ I will be so vexxed. Is it possible for me to apply now and get in by June?

Another problem is most of the forces is deployed... nobody to train these new recruits is a problem.

I got a call last thursday on my voice mail saying they had a job offer, by the time I got the message, my recruiter had left for a week, she is coming friday... so I‘ll know more then.

I was applying for Reg Sig Op.

You must remember that recruiting did not start back up full tilt until about 2 years ago. The problem is that the training system can handle only so many new people at a time. Who do you think trains these new people. It would be the same if you accept 10,000 new students to a university at once. There are only so many facilities and instructors. It will take a few years to clear the back log created by this. That is why you are seeing 1-2 years for PAT (Personnel Awaiting Training). It is worse for the trades people. You are complaining (Yes complaining) that you are not being accept fast enough. Get use to the waiting because dependant of which trade your looking at you could be in for alot of waiting at different levels of the training system. That doesn‘t mean get discouraged but perserverance and patience will get you to your final goals.

But eventually, you do get in, right?

You will be taught how to kill people, so you think that they might want to make sure that they don‘t let a nut, or even worse a terrorist in?
It‘s not like they are doing a background check on me. Also, I‘m not joining the Air Force to kill people, that is the infantry‘s job.

I thought that they only do extensive background checks on people who have not been in the country for atleast 10 years. I was not born in Canada, but have lived here for more then 10 years.

So who does this background check, my local recruiting office or the CFRC main office? My local recruiting office said they sent my file somewhere where someone decides if I get my trade or not.

CSIS does your security check. They‘re kind of like the Canadian equivalent to the Americans CIA. They just basically check to see if you are who you say you are and check your name too see if any "bells" go off.
I‘ve heard of delays in this process if your name is shared with someone who has been in trouble with the law. Understandable though.

they do back ground checks on every possible member of the CDN forces... Criminal checks, and they even check to see what your finacial status is....etc
