If an issue in Pickering or Mirabel ended up leading to protests in other municipalities across the country, things might go differently for them, too.One of the groups being consulted has a total population of less than 3000 yet they are the make or break barrier to much of the territory mining development and transportation network. I don't recall the same consideration being given to the people of Pickering or around Mirabel and there are a lot more of them …
I was in the public service for 20 years plus and “traditional territory” was a common term waaaay then. It’s an idea that’s been confirmed by the courts since the mid-1990’s, so it ain’t just a buzzword. On top of "unceded" lands, the popular one now is "on traditional territory".
