Well this probably won't help most since gusy are stuck in boots for the most part.

But.

I got a set of Salomon Expert Mid's last Sept to take to Afghan - they are a hiking shoe and without doubt the most comfortbale shoe I have ever worn for that sort of stuff -- (MEC has them BTW) I got them off a CAG guy that had recommend them for "work".  I ended up getting a second set - then a set of Danner Aggitators (I dont waer a uniform so I dont need boots) hiking shoes are a lot more comfortable and lighter than boots in my experience.

However just recently I bought a set of Oakley Flack jackets (yeah gay name) -- I had been disappojted with the tan oakley assualt boots I got a few years ago

I got them in tan at the Oakley store in the Orlando Fl airport $100 (pretty good deal I think)

Anyway they have quickly stolen my feets heart.  -- and then blend in well enough for civilian wear as well.

I still like the Salomons -- but at least now it looks like I change my shoes...

BTW for Army guys the Bates and Meindl Desert fox are the best booots out there IMHO

I've worn combat-style boots for 28 years— everything from old school 'cruit boots to Danners. The most comfortable boots I ever wore (and still do) are Belleville 790's. They're comfortable, durable, and waterproof.

Which Bates?  I was looking at getting a set of the Durashocks, but I am interested in which style you were referring to.

I used a pair of Bates M6's the whole time I was over in the ghan and I loved them. Now if only they would make them in black without a gay sidezip!

Dan - Javahead - has a great review of the Bates on Lightfighter and Professional Soldiers -- I gotta run -- but I am sure Quagmire can drop the link here.

Here is the link from lightfighter;

This is a review for the Bates M9, I personnally prefer the M6. Some boot just shorter

Thanks Phil,

I got the Bates M9's -- the PX in Bagram had them - and beggars can't be chosers -- the German PX at KAIA had the Meindl Desert Fox's, and I knew gusy off Athena that loved them so I went that route too.

I saw a bunch of guys wearing mid shoes - but I can guess that some units (cough 2 RCR cough) won't be as forgiving as Picklie units -- or what it seems 1 RCR is doing.  No doubt shortly into the tour the reality of war and what works will run over the Royals since they are usually good soliders just a littel uptight from that pace stick rammed all the way up  ;)

I wear Original SWAT's at work now, CF supplied and all. But those look sweet for everyday street wear. Next time you're back in Fl I-6 let me know, I'll send you the cash for a pair... I am kicking myself for not picking up a set of Meindls when I was in Kabul  :(

People are starting to suspect a serious boot fettish when they come by my place now!  ;D

I've been accused of being the next Immelda Marcos as well  ;)

As stated by me in another thread, Converse makes an excellent desert boot

Desert gear has them for about $89 USD and well worth it.

I don't know if this is within topic, but I felt it needed to be said.

I was a fairly religious user of the Sole Custom footbeds until very recently.  I saw (thanks to this site) that many are using Superfeet insoles, so I tried them out.  I like them as much, if not more than the Sole beds, as they give me as much support, but in a thinner profile.  That allows me to better customize my choice of socks for the weather.  Thanks Army.ca posters!
