Anyone ever play "Tunnels"?   Or how about the infamous helmet drink?   I hope the traditions are carrying on...

I can recall a drink called A flaming arsehole and if I can find what ever rock Cooki Lumsden is hiding under these days I will ask what the heck was in it.Way back when I simply did'nt have the nerve to ask!

Cooki was still there when I was in... last time I was back in Winnipeg, he had moved on to greener pastures.  Myself and a couple of other Garry's ran into him at a bar in the Osbourne village..

Yes, the old traditions are still alive. The helmet still comes out during the Men's Xmas Dinner, and the bunker party. We haven't played tunnels since we've moved upstairs, just no room for those big ol' couches, but I imagine we'll play again when we move back down stairs.

Tunnels and Lumsdens, that brings back memories.   As an crew commander/patrol leader I had Cookie as a trooper and Chuck as an SSM.   As for tunnels, my memory fails me on the specifics -   I remember the name and the damaged couches but little else.   However I do remember playing a game in which blindfolded one team, the destroyers, would walk through the JR yelling repeatedly "ping" while the opposing team, the submarines, also blindfolded, would crawl around on all fours yelling "pong".    When you zeroed in on an opposite "warship" you whacked it.    :blotto:    I trust following generations of Garries maintained that fine standard of athletic prowess.

Could the Flaming Arsehole drink be a re-named Flaming Drambuie ?   Or could it be something made with Southern Comfort ?-   that too was popular, especially on ex.

Subs and Destroyers!   We played that a couple of times, but the last time it was played, it ended in a fight.. a FNG didn't take well to getting whacked.   We played with blacked out AFV goggles for the destroyers...   and I'm not admitting to anything, but liberal amounts of beer may or may not have been used to simulate "sea spray" for the sightless destroyers.

Nope, but I'll bet it was chugged back under the Tolstoi plaque that hung in Sgt's & WOs mess to commemorate the internal security exercise from hell  >

It's one part egg liqueur from Holland (the name escapes me, but I think it starts with "A"), and one part Canadian Whiskey.  Not the two best combinations, but it's the symbolic meaning that's important.  The egg liqueur from Holland symbolizes the liberation of Holland in WWII, and the Canadian Whiskey symbolizes The Fort Garry Horse's role in that liberation...

Most of the games we play now are basically spoons and such but we have a new game kinda like jousting only alot more fun and painful lol. Basically we get 2 chairs with wheels, sit some FNG or an older guy in each of the chairs, one team starts at one end of the parade square, other team at the other end, and well i guess you could see where this is going lol. It a great game, although not as fun as tunnels and subs and destroyers, those were the good old days. We have alot of new people in the Regiment now, some are real good ,there good troops and also stick around for the comradire, others, well its the new army now and i guess some guys just don't know what the meaning of brotherhood is, but all in all we still have a great bunch of guys that do things together, so as times change we change with them, hopefully we get our dungeon mess back soon, i miss my chair in the "pit" ( Blackhorse will remember those days well , but if we don't get it back as promised, we will do what Garries have always done improvise, adapt and overcome. Facta Non Verba!!! Cheers!!!

To any former Garries on this site to give you a SITREP we are as of right now the highest parading strength unit in 38 Brigade. We have 2 full troops, A sqn 1 Troop and A sqn 2 Troop, as well as our Training Troop and our HQ Squadron. And as of this year we have the first Engineering detachment in 38 Brigade attached to us, which is only a benefit to us. The last Engineering Sqn was in Flin Flon and it was disbanded in the early 90's. Although we have been pretty much an Infantry Recce Regiment for the past 2 years because of the fazing out of the Iltis we have still been productive when it comes to keeping up our skills and developing new ones. With the addition of the Gwagen as our new vehicle in the new year( or so they say i'll believe it when i see it :dontpanic it should be an exciting year of getting back in to the true meat and potatoes of our Regiment and thats Armoured Reconnaissance, without the armour of course lol Cheers!!!

training troop.

In the Regiment itself we do not have a B Squadron Shec, but the Saskatchewan Dragoons are our B Squadron the last we were told as they only have a Major commanding the Regiment, but i'll look into that and find out for sure...

no B Sqn? Our troop (1 troop) has been continually addressed (and refered to) 1 Troop B Sqn and that is what I've been taught since getting accepted and parading at McGregor. Am I missing something?

I guess they call the training troop B squadron, but in the operational sense the Sask D's are our B Squadron, you guys in holding troop now will be filtered into the other 2 troops once you have your courses completed,or they may just filter you in before then, it changes day to day it seems lol
