Fourth Emergency Service

When I was working as a medic for AHS, we had fights in the back of ambulances all the time
4.18 per 1000 calls sounds like a massive underreporting problem.

4.18 per 100 calls I would say seems exceptionally low - unless patients in Toronto are just exceptionally better behaved than patients in Edmonton...

The customers our station served were, for the most part, well behaved.

But, we did carry Spit Hoods ( Spit Hood application ACR Code 181 ) for those few who were not.

Did you have them in Alberta?

Saw this regarding them on CBC News today,

Spit hoods have been linked to deaths. Banned in parts of the world, in Canada, they’re used commonly, sometimes even on minors, and few agencies track their use or the consequences

Spithoods are still normal items. There is risk but they are also a consequence of biting and spitting. They are used WAY LESS often than they used to be anecdotally

Throwing someone in the shower with a plastic bag around their mouth seems like something common sense would say is a bad idea
