I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything that exactly answered my question... Knowing french is a must in the canadian army? Im going for infantry just a little fact.. Is french a must in the canadian army?

I guess you could put that myth in with the opinion that Canadians all speak french, drive dog teams and live in igloos.

French courses are offered in the CF as an option. I believe officers/senior NCO's require second language training for promotion but at the JNCO level, a second language profile will be "points" toward promotion.

If you dont want to learn french, the only hinderance will be that if your peers take the training, they will be better qualified than you.

Alrite, thanks I didn't mean in any way that I don't wish to learn french. I had french from grade 6-9 then i dropped it just curious if it's a must to get in or a option that betters your chacnes makes you better qualified etc.

If you think your french is good enough, ask to take the french test so you will get a language profile. This along with your course standings and PER's will give you an edge on unilingual troops. If your french isn't the best, request a french course through a memo to the chain.
