My clearance took 8 months, and I lived in another NATO country for a couple of years.
For those who have a normal security sweep, don't sweat it.
I found the security clearance part of my application by far the most frustrating. Nothing was happening, and I knew my file was just sitting on someone's desk waiting for it's turn to be processed. It was very hard to keep my motivation level up and my interest in the CF going. Keeping my mind on 'Army' was important, otherwise I know I would given up in frustration.
For those of you in this position, I reccomend renting a lot of war movies, read war history books, and of course utilize Army.ca
This is also a great time to increase your fitness level a great deal, so keep hitting that gym.
After my security clearance finally came through, it was like a giant weight was lifted off my shoulders. I was back in the system and things were finally happening with my application. As a result my motivation for joining is stronger than ever. Hang in there guys, I think the wait will be worth it.
