Fuel Tabs & Outdoor Cooking Equpment

During combustion hexamine leaves a residue on the bottom of your canteen cup, trioxane doesn't leave any residue.

This place sells trioxane: http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/results.tam?rlk=2324678

Or, have a look at the stores on the list, on this page: http://army.ca/forums/threads/25391.30.html

The starter bricks sold at any good hard ware store is the same crap & works well with the canteen cup.
A can of Sterno also works.

Where can I get these? My unit QM? I only used them on course when my section commander busted some out.

Hexamine tabs? They don't givethem out anymore, as far as I could tell. Now, you might manage to find some through scrounging, or if the NCM's have stored some beforehand, or if you have found a box of them, and loaded up...not that I have known of these methods to be practiced...but no, I don't believe they are on the list of giveaways anymore.

They used to sell them at Can tire.  They were round and came in a 24 pack.  They burned cleaner than the Hexy tabs and didn't have that eye burning smell.  I don't know if they are still sold there, cause I only used them a few times.  Discuss with your section buying a whisperlite stove, if you get reshuffled when the new slate comes out, donate it to your section commander to continue using in the section, or have a draw for it among the section.  Should only take 8-10 bucks to toss in on it, and it burns army fuel.  Also, Sterno is the good stuff, it is super lightand has an almost invisible flame.  Those rat bags blow in my opinion.  Use a burning device, cause you can then make a coffee or something else.  But a whisper stove with a 20 oz fuel bottle will last a section for about 2 days between fill ups.  Just keep it in the section stores so Homeboy doesn't, forget it at home, lose it, or lend it to a buddy.

Less garbage to pack out as well.

Hit any MEC, Bushtukah, Some Can Tires, Any real outdoorsy, granola, tread lightly store like trail head.  Or LeBaron.  Most places have them, but the best is Ebay, cause there is only 2 moving parts, so even if it doesn't work, it only takes about 4 bucks to get them running again.  Buy yourself a head lamp at the same time.

If you plan to use the stove with a canteen cup, you're better off getting an MSR Simmerlite as opposed to the Whisperlite.  It's a little more expensive but holds a canteen cup with more stability.

A Canteen cup can actuallly stay on that thing?

Most certainly it will.  Plus, they run on napatha (white gas) which is readily available in most places, and so long as you empty and wash out the fuel bottles you can fly with them without any problem.

I purchased a whisperlite stove.

Notice quickly afterward that the CF Canteen cup doesn't fit on all that well, I went back to MEC and got the alpine bowl.

with the handle, it works well as a pot for heating rations, wash bowl and it protects your shave gear if inside a large ziploc or similar container.

This would be perfect for anyone using a frying pan or the like, to distribute heat better

I wonder if the Canteen Cup would be more secure, sitting on the there,
