Interesting video which shows captured Canadian troops. Youtube also has a variety of other Normandy video.

Fascinating. One wonders if any of those men shown captured were among those shot at Abbaye d'Ardenne.

The only way to know for sure is to compare pictures of the POW's who were shot and compare it to the footage. The soldiers pictured dont appear to be guarded by SS. But who knows ?

Very interesting. I noted a couple of things. First, some of the landing craft appeared to be of the type used at Dieppe, that is what the US called Higgins Boats. These craft had no ramps and the troops had to jump over the side.

Second, in one of the shots one of the PWs was wearing a PPCLI flash but did not seem to be an officer. (I am not 100% sure about the rank, but fairly certain about the flash.) This was in the last few seconds of the clip.

The whole thing was certainly an exercise in putting a good spin on things.

Very interesting, indeed. It's kind of funny to see the German perspective on the war and what they told their civilians and soldiers what was happening. The war was turning around in the Allies favor around that time and the Normady invasion played a key part. If I was some uninformed civilian at that time, I would think the Germans were kicking some serious ass out there.  ;D

They were.
Caen, 10 km from the Channel, was finally liberated on 9 July 1944.  Not from lack of trying on our part, but more due to the "ass kicking" being done by both sides.
If you check out the majority of German reports in WWII, most were not that far off the mark, though many included some politicizing, such as the headlines in that newsreel which state "Invasion by order of the Soviets", stuff like that.
