Germany’s governing coalition collapses

It seems like Germany is going to struggle to put together a governing coalition. The CDU won the most seats and the AFD gained a lot, but CDU refuses to work with them, at least openly. Everyone is also waiting on recounts to see if some of the smaller parties gain official party status. My guess is that unless the CDU and SPD can work together, then the CDU is going to be forced to form a government with AFD.

CDU = AFD = 360 seats

SPD + GRUNE + Die Linke = 269

Germany could adopt immigration polices that are similar to other EU countries that have recently shifted course. Now is not to the time to have a leadership vacuum in Germany. The country must get more serious on defense spending, remove any restrictions on arms to Ukraine, restart it's nuclear reactors and start looking at coal again.
Canada and Germany should work together on nuclear energy, clean coal technology and working to get Canadian NG to the EU market. Also working together on defence technology to build up a ITAR free stockpile of weapons and technology.

Doubtful. More likely is a Grand Coalition between the CDU and the SPD, and maybe the Greens. The two parties have formed Grand Coalitions in the past to keep out extremist parties so this wouldn’t be new. The CDU has also made it clear that they won’t work with the AfD.

Further to my last:

The CDU has ruled out a coalition with the AfD, insisting that it is the "firewall" to the far right. That leaves a two-way grand coalition with the SPD or a three-way coalition that includes the Greens as the most likely options, depending on the final seat distribution.

I just heard that the CDU and SPD are in talks. It's likley the AFD and CDU align on certain points, so it will limit the SPD abilty to control the CDU in such a "Grand coalition" They are talking about a government by Easter.
