Id like to know ALL the possibilities for getting out of the army.  Once you sign your 3 years away, does this mean that it; no possible way at all to get out???  Are there backdoors out or what?  This kinda information you can't find on DND websites.

Bav2002,

I am also in the recruiting process and I don't have first hand knowledge about this topic. But I suspect it is not impossible, and there is some way to do it. I am sure there are members here who can answer your question.

I am posting because really, three years is not that long of a commitment to make. I am looking at a 9 year commitment for some of the Officer positions I am considering and that does not phase me.

Why does a three year commitment concern you? Perhaps that is an indication that you may be trying to join up for the wrong reasons in the first place? (Not an accusation, just curious as to what the motivation to this question was)

To me 3 years is a long time, there is a lot one can accomplish in 3 years.  I am in the process of considering the armed forces as a regular member, the reasons of why, I am not 100% sure.  I had the reserves experience which i really enjoyed, basic & SQ.  Now that i think about perhaps pursuing it full time, i only get more and more confused with my decision.  A concern i have it being able to do all the things i would like to do in the army, a tour, jump out of Griffins, airplanes:  this is not allways possible, nothing is really guarenteed.  I wouldnt want to make a career out of the armed forces either, just use it for the experience.  thats my bit.

There are ways out of the contract, however it's not generally looked well upon by the highers.  3 yrs is really not a big time frame in the grand scheme of things.  Who knows, you might really enjoy things before it's up.

As no one actually have answered your question, but gave their advice I am going to try and answer:
There are a few ways to get out of the military:
Administrative burden (basically release for being a pain in the A$$) - that is not something you want to get into because after you are released with that one, you might never get a government job again.
Voluntarily release - this one is when you write a memo to get out of the military. Usually takes about 6mths to be completely released.
One more is Medical release - if you got injured and military finds you as not being able to continue your job.
