Going from Mtl to Edmonton (or vs)

I've Google going from Mtl to Edmonton, just to know
the distance (4 098 km, w w) ...

Google told me to go to Chicago then Minneapolis and back in Canada by Winnipeg.

Anyone has a guess why it didn't plot a way from up the Greats Lake in Canada ?

It's MUCH further to go north around the Great Lakes than to go south around them.

Although with border crossing being the hassle it can sometimes be, the north route may actually be shorter time-wise.

You aren't planning on making this drive in the WINTER, are you??

I ain't planning to do the trip at all.
Was just checking the distance.

I heard a journalist on CTV saying that thousands of kms are between the 2 cities,
didn't believe him.

But looking at the map, the north seem feasible by the 17, and shorter...

Interstates are generally quicker, American roads are much nicer. Whenever we travel long distances we zip down over the border and take the nicer roads a little to our south.

I did the trip from Edmonton to Kingston in '05 via the northern route.  Checking my driving log, it has my total mileage at just under 4400 km's, but that includes the scenic tour along the lakes and a diversion from Toronto to Niagra Falls and incidental travel while staying with friends for a day or two.

Ive done Quebec city - Edmonton and to there, I pass by Canada, and to go back home to my best freind advice, I passed trough USA, here is my 0.02$

USA has better quality of road, and since you cross a few town, village...etc.. the road seemed to be shorter...

Canada road is way cool for the sight when neart the lakes, the prairies = BORING!

it is a great trip, but I would not do it often.

Yes the border is a little longer to cross but a lot of trucker prefer to pass it and go US then get back in canada.
