Governor General's Coat of Arms

Granted and I agree, though for:

Hnatyshyn:

Clarkson:

Leblanc:

And Madame Jean's includes the Royal Crown and the Order of Canada - each of the four we can review has a blend of personal and Canadian symbology.

Indeed, though it would appear the other three made some attempt at Canadian content beyond the minimum requisite of a crown reference (a regal lyon in the case of Hnatyshyn) and an Order of Canada. As I said, it really is a petty thing to argue over but I just enjoy playing the devil's advocate. :D

I am surprised that she didn't include (aside from the French motto which can be attributed to Haiti just as easily) any Quebec symbols, though I suppose it's understandable given all the speculation as to where her loyalties lie. If there'd been a fleur de lys in the coat of arms, I'll bet there'd be outcries of "Look - she's a separatist!!".  ::)

Michael,
If you listened to Mrs Jean's speach, you'll know exactly where her public stand on Canada is.

She has a very clear view on where our Gov'ts' policy on diversity has led us - creating all sorts of marginalized groups in ethnic ghettos. To a certain extent, isn't Quebec just another glorified ethnic ghetto?

Don't think anyone can mistake Mrs Jean as anything but a Canadian with a humble past.

Ghetto:
refers to very high concentrations of people drawn from a particular ethnic or cultural background living in specific parts of an urban area....

The term is now commonly associated with notions of deprivation, unemployment and social exclusion.

A ghetto is an area where people from a specific ethnic background or united in a given culture or religion live as a group, voluntarily or involuntarily, in milder or stricter seclusion.

Take the defenition you want...... I grew up here, live here, work here and am bringing up my children here..... and to me - some aspects of diversity take us down the path to marginalisation and the creation of ethnic ghettos.

IMHO

Ghettos necessarily, these days at least, entail "deprivation" in my mind. I don't believe the entirety of Quebec can be classified a "ghetto". I don't think anyone would characterize Westmount as a "ghetto" just because it's largely anglo.

ANYWAYS - BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND!!

Does anyone know if the GG's coat of arms is actually used in any appreciable way? I mean her "personal" coat of arms. Is it just something they use for letterhead or does she fly a flag of it outside the residence?
