My "MSMSGS.exe" will not shut down, after repeated attempts through Task Manager and deleting other files it still keeps rearing its ugly head in Task Manager.....Im at a loss, ive tried some searching of the web (Google) and havent found anything yet. So Ill pose this question here in hope that i will get an answer either way.

Thanks!

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/msmsgs/ - "Note: msmsgs.exe is a process which is registered as the W32.Alcarys.B@mm worm. This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and comes in the form of an e-mail message, in the hopes that you open it's hostile attachment."

http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/msmsgs.exe.html - "Note: The msmsgs.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. In other cases, msmsgs.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager."

http://www.auditmypc.com/process/msmsgs.asp - "If a process named msmsgs.exe is running on your computer, you may have been infected with a strain of the Agobot-Nl worm."

Here run this, it may help

And this,

Good Luck.

I have it too :o  I had seen it before but just figured it was part of MSN messenger or something.  D'oh!

It may not be a virus though - its the file for the built-in windows messenger in windows XP, and is set to start with windows.

(Taken from Michael O'Leary's second source)

"The Windows Messenger from Microsoft provides Online Chat and Instant Messaging.
If you don't use Windows Messenger, you can disable it as follows: Start -> Programs -> Windows Messenger -> Tools -> Options -> Preferences. Uncheck "Run this program when Windows Starts"."

Hope this helps,

I cannot believe some C**t has nothing better to do but write viruses to screw over everyone. Unbelievable.

I'm really glad that the good folks on this forum were able to help you out though, Blakey

Ran my Nortons, it picked up a worm. Hopefully thats all it was  ::) , msm doesnt keep poping up in the task manager so...all seems good.

Computer Associates anti-virus is availible free for the first 12 months, it's worth it!

After reading this, I got curious. I opened my Task Manager, only to see msmsgs.exe. Wow, the bad luck I have(not to mention others as well).
