A Gabriola Island man who has been found repeatedly guilty of fishing violations over almost two decades, has now been sentenced to six years and ordered to pay fines of over $1.1 million.

Some serious, serious money in harvesting 'sea cucumbers' (I'm like 99.5% sure they and Gooeyduck are the same thing?)

Like serious money. Fantastic business to be in if one can become one of the lucky few granted a license to harvest them each year...



Probably thought he just needed to harvest a few, and had a buyer lined up who thought they had a source of cheaper than market gooeyduck that they could then flip.

Obviously such an exclusive & profitable industry has their ways of making sure others don't trample on their revenue source.

I just learned that Geoduck & Sea Cucumbers aren't actually the same thing...
