I don't think he was criticizing the troops themselves, more the mission. There have been constant Hezbollah attacks on Israel despite the presence of Peacekeepers, which kind of indicates the mission is a failure.

Perhaps but it reads to me that he’s critical of the personnel.

I’d rather do Afghanistan again than have to work a mission under UN ROE that stop me from preventing atrocity.

There are good reasons why the Canadian military is not keen on another big UN mission. I think Sinai was likley the most successful in the long run.

Cyprus was not bad but there you had a cease fire agreement and for the most part both sides observed it.
