One begins to wonder if such nutters are living and breathing the air in our own homelands. I would venture to guess, there are many who would jump at the chance to martyr themselves in Canada, Australia and throughout other western countries.

Its all pretty sick in my books, and even encouraging kids to wear fake bomb vests and toy AKs, parading in the streets is also well beyond comprehension. Sadly its a fact, and that scares me, and it should scare any westerner with half a brain (aside from the snivel libertarians who think it can't happen on our soil).

Regards,

Wes

Funny thing is that there is nowhere in the Koran that supports the whole thing of suicide bombers, the murder of inocents............

Just another bunch of nutters - claiming they do it in the name of Islam (IMHO)

I just finished a BA in Human Rights and I wrote my honours Human Rights paper on Fundamentalist Islamic beliefs and terrorism, and how we really don't have much of a choice other than to eradicate anyone who falls for this poisonous perversion of Islam. It caused a bit of a mess in the department, granted, but more and more evidence keeps piling up that there is no rational way to deal with this problem. It's one thing when your traditional terrorist, aggressive males between the ages of 15 and 30 fall for the ideology, being the most violence-prone demographic in the world, but mothers? The problem gets more and more disturbing every day. The worst aspect is that it doesn't even seem to be goal oriented anymore. Even Al-Qaeda has published some demands, though they are incredibly unrealistic. These people just seem to want a shortcut through life straight to Allah!

You couldn't be more right Marc. it pretty much like suicide without having the unforgivable sin of killing your self. but i say we give them a even shorter trip to Allah  ;)

Just reading a really good book by a liberal Muslim woman, Irshad Manji, "The Trouble With Islam Today."
It's a must read. Her website is pretty interesting too.

If she is even half right we are in deeper $hit than any of us think. We'd better hope that reformers like herself start to win the day.

There's also a book by Bernard Lewis called "What Went Wrong?" that traces the historical & socio-political-economic history of the Islamic world. For a long time they were the only enlightened and advanced culture on Earth, while everyone else was stuck quite literally in the Dark ages. His basic thesis is that in trying to rationalize the relative poverty and lack of power or freedom of the current Muslim world their people can ask one of two questions; the progressive element is beginning to ask “What did we do wrong?” accepting that individuals and societies have made specific mistakes of action over the centuries that can be recognized and reversed. But the other element links the previous prosperity of the Muslim world with the Islamic faith. The failure of Muslim civilization to maintain its dominance demands only one question, “What have the Muslims done to Islam?”

That's the idea that seems to be laying the foundation for fundamentalism, and if its true then you have to wonder if there's anything we can really do to stop it, besides mopping up the consequences. It's really an internal problem within their civilization. We just have to hope there are enough Irshad Manjis in the world to get the job started.

Maybe the husband being referred to in the video was just looking for an alternative to an expensive divorce?  "Yeah, you're serving Allah, you go girl!"  :P

No doubt there are people who blow themselves up, but I often wonder how much of the talk is propaganda.  When Iran talks about tens of thousands of people trained, and countless others begging to be allowed to blow themselves up, I wonder how accurate that is.  Just because a bunch of fisters put on black pyjamas and some skridgitty head band and shout for the cameras we here in Castle North America say "oh, that is scary" but have we ever seen twenty people wax themselves in one go?  If some country has "thousands of willing martyrs" then why don't we see maybe a hundred distribute themselves around some area and make a huge splash?  (pun unintended, but a bonus none the less)  We have certainly seen that misinformation is a big Hezbollah tactic in their media staging.  What about all the "brave fierce warriors of jihad" that we were supposed to be mauled by in the Sandbox?  Bunch of clowns setting booby traps and doing hit and run ambushes.
There will be more suicide bombers, but I suspect that it is a more difficult and reluctant process than we think.
