Hi,

Can someone enlighten me on the hierarchy of the medical group?

We have the BSurg & ASurg. Is there anyone between the ASurg and the CF Surg Gen.
Who does the CF Surg Gen report to (title)?

thanks

The Area Surgeon reports to the Command Surgeon (who has the formal title of Medical Advisor to the Chief of the <Land/Air/Maritime> Staff).

This person then reports to the Surg Gen (or right now the Deputy Surg Gen).

For instance the LCFA Surg reports to the LFC Surg who reports tothe Deputy Surg Gen (who is currently Capt(N) H.W. Jung).

For the Army the Comd Surg is: Col A.G. Darch
For the Air Force the Comd Surg is: Capt(N) M.E.C. Courchesne

And I am not sure who it is for the Navy because the never phone me anymore <smile>.

Hope that helps...

MC

it certainly does.

You say right now they report to the Deputy Surg Gen...Where does BGen Jaeger fall into this hierarchy. Is she not the CF Surg Gen?

thanks

CMS Medical Advisor is Cdr Briggs.

The Surg Gen, Director General Health Services and Commander Canadian Forces Health Services Group positions are held by BGen Jaeger.  She reports to Chief Military Personnel MGen Semianiw.

In the Army, the Medical Advisory (Clinical) Hierarchy is Base Surg, Bde Surg, Area Surg.  The Surgeon do not hold leadership positions or command authority, they are advisors to the Command chain.

The Command Hierarchy is Clinic Manager, (1,2,5) Fd Amb CO, (1,4) Health Services Group Commander, Deputy Commander CF Health Services Group, Commander CF H Svcs Gp.

oh my god.. you can't even start to imagine how much I am greatfull on what you just told me. Now I know why DCSA got me my health care even when the ASurg was not willing and the CF Surg Gen was vague about it.

thanks!!!!

Are there any particular reasons why subordinate HSG comds report through the 2I/C?  That's certainly a novel way to run a chain of command.

My guess is because at the time of our reorganization, the office of Surg Gen was vested in the DComd. Now the Comd is also the SurgGen. The Comd CF H Svcs commands both the CFMS and CFDS, but there is a "branch head" for each one, with the DComd being the one for Medical, and Comd CFDS for Dental, both at Col/Capt(N).

So the Comd H Svc Gp has a staff and gives orders to the DComd, and the DComd has a staff and gives orders to the HSG Comds?

I find it difficult to believe that is correct.

Neither the Comd or DComd has a dedicated staff per se.  There is a one Chief of Staff that takes care of the HQ. The Commander is the level one - Director General Health Services.  The Deputy Commander supervises the National-level units 1 Cdn Fd Hosp, CMED and 1 and 4 HSG.

There are DCOS for:
- Health Services Delivery
- Dental Services
- Human Resources
- Medical Policy
- Force Health Protection
