If someone did that prior to being hired, I'd argue they should be a lifetime deferral & most likely would be.
But if you do this after becoming a member? Apparently just a reduction in rank/pay for a year and a half...
It sends the wrong message to both the public and to the service's members.
The message should be - pull this kind of shit & know with absolute certainty that you'll be terminated, period. And that's a best case scenario...
