I was in the reg force for a short period of time and left d/t a change of heart. I have been missing it, and wish to rejoin but this time in the reserves. I have been interested in 23 Field Amb in Hamilton or RHFC in Kitchener, I have called both units, with no response. The recruiting centers just telll me to keep calling and that they aren't involved with reserves. Please help.

Well right now its the christmas stand down so i don't know if you would be able to get a hold of someone right now.

Reserve units have been stood down for the Christmas/New Years break. If you left a message, they should get back to you on their first parade night or shortly thereafter. That shouldn't be long, as my units stand up parade is this Wednesday, January 4th. Not sure when the units in Ontario stand up, but I'm willing to be it will be the same time, give or take a few days depending on what night they parade.

One thing of note, my brother became interested in the reserves shortly after I did, and being a paramedic in training, became interested in the 15th Field Ambulance out here in BC. It took them two weeks to get back to his inquiries. Patience is a virtue, as I'm sure you know from your time in the regular force.

I have actually called the reserve units several months ago and left messages. People say to go "drop in" on parade nights or whatever, but i have a fulltime job doing shift work at a hospital and my shifts usually conflict with many evenings.

JDL,

Most units in 31 Brigade are back this week, however given the stand down, there may be a volume of phone msgs that have to be responded to. If I'm not mistaken, 23 Field Amb. parades on Wed. It's probably best to get down there and ask to see the recruiter.

Just an aside, if you can't make the time to get down to the unit due to shift work conflicts on evenings, how do you expect to actually participate in the training? You may want to think this through a bit more. My $.02

Im a nurse at a hospital, I do shift work...days, nights weekends. It all rotates. From what I hear, any extra devoted help is needed? Or am I just useless if I cannot promise to make every parade night. I know plenty of reservists that have jobs that interfere and they devote time when they can. Its reserve for a reason, most people already have full time jobs anyhow. If extra help isn't required for future purposes, than Im not sure why I would even attempt to apply for the reserves.

. Its reserve for a reason,

Reserve units still operate on certain nights of the week and selected weekends. If you are no there regularly for those, you are not much good to them.

Thanks for the honesty. I won't be considering reserves anymore.
