Given Assassinations and Sabotage (including incidents that resulted in European NATO members citizens being killed) have been going on for over a decade - I’m perplexed that anyone is surprised?
If Russia wasn’t a Nuclear power - it would be called war, and we would have sacked Moscow by now.

Luckily we are still at the sticks and stones stage. If someone started using homemade thermite welds on rail switches they would cripple everything for days. 2/3/4/...n for 1 discount when locker rods are targeted. Or if they were feeling ingenious they could make a vibration sensor cross tie fault pathway which disconnects when repair crews approach and then reengages once they are X km away. A piezoelectric cantilever beam disconnect is analog (and dead easy to make) and would force troubleshooters to work on foot. The Dutch (EU as a whole) need to get permanent overwatch in place ASAP.

We do. Large, static, defensive formations are part of the modern deterrent equation. The ability to have someone physically walk a rail line as soon as a fault is detected, and before rail traffic is impacted, is just as important as hardened infantry. No front lines, no weak points, just comprehensive national security.

I agree. War is hideously expensive. When governments are forced to confront part of its cost (major social reorganization and the mobilization of forced labour) they are less likely to pursue additional conflict. The era of 'we can print money, borrow against tomorrow, and fight over there' is dead and buried. The only silver lining to the deep battle sabotage campaign Russia is waging right now is that its providing a crystal clear wake up call to so called national 'elites'. If they refuse to acknowledge this reality they make themselves vulnerable to political displacement and exile. Their apathy has weakened them greatly. And the hyenas can smell blood.
