I want to serve my country more than anything and do my country proud, I intend on joining the CF it's just...I don't quite understand the process. I've searched as much as possible seeing as I don't know anyone in the CF at the moment or have any close ties with anyone in the CF so I haven't really got as much information as possible regarding the process.

I would like to be an Infantry Soldier so say I get that job, I've looked it up and it says I have to go do BMQ at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu then do SQ and then do MOC.

So really the questions are:
1. Where would I do BCT if I were posted to BMQ at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu? Is it on a completely different base seeing as Saint-Jean Garrison is a Recruit School as a wing of CFB Montreal?
2. If BCT were on a different base, where would the possible bases be for an Infantry Soldier?

I'm a bit muzzled  ???

I'm puzzled trying to figure this out.

BMQ (Basic Military Qualification) is held in St-Jean and this is where you learn the basics of being a soldier/sailor/airperson.

After that, if you go to a land trade, you go to another base and do your SQ (Soldiers Qualification) where you learn to live in the field and fight as a soldier.

Following that, you go to your trade's school and learn your MOC (Military Occupation Code) or trade.

Upon successful completion of your trade's training you will be posted to a unit.

Edit for typo

I'm puzzled too.  What's BCT?  ???

You can check here www.forces.ca or look in your phone book for a recruiting centre.  They will tell you what you need to do to apply.

Seriously, I don't know what's so complicated about it.  If you wanted a job at a convenience store, wouldn't you go there (or call them) and ask what's required to apply?  Same thing here, just a longer process.

BCT is an American term for Basic Combat Training. In Canada, an Infantry soldier completes DP1 Infantry to learn their craft.

Where you do your DP1 depends on your Regimental Affiliation. PPCLI I believe go to Wainwright, RCR to Meaford, and R22eR go to Valcartier. For postings, PPCLI has 2 battalions in Edmonton, and 1 battalion in Shilo. RCR has 2 in Petawawa and 1 in Gagetown. All R22eR units are in Valcartier for the Regular Force.

There is a lot of information on this site, have a read over some of the Stickied topics in the Recruiting and Training area. They may answer all of your questions before you even have to make a new topic.

Perhaps your first step should be to go down to the CFRC and talk to a Recruiter.  As you are not even in Canada, that could be a long trip, but it could prove productive.  I might suggest that you read the http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/24937.0.html as well as FIRST OFF - Do you meet the 3 CRITERIA ? in the Recruiting FAQ section.

Yeah mate I would have talked to the recruiter but I'm currently enrolled in an exchange program at school, which is why I haven't gotten as much information as the CF and the process as I could have. I will talk to the recruiter as soon as I get back but it might take quite some time seeing as I have to finish off my exchange program here.

Thank you to all that replied though! I will definitely have a look through the sticky topics and the other topics for some more information. Cheers.

Hmmm, on the Forces.ca website it quite clearly explains the entire process of joining {link}: http://www.forces.ca/flash.aspx#/flash/en/161-162-7/resources/how-to-join/the-process

AND Recruit training: http://www.forces.ca/flash.aspx#/flash/en/141-142-3/training/recruit-training/about-basic-training

AND, if you go to the "job explorer" portion of the Website, click on the link to Infantry Soldier and then click on the tab that says "training" ... it quite clearly explains what training will be done, where it potentially will happen AND how long each portion of the training will take.

How hard is this?

Now, go cross the street by yourself ... we're not holding your hand anymore.

And, depending on what country you are in and how long you've been there, expect an extra delay in your application for the required security checks.
