Yeah, you heard me right. I much prefer parade boots to oxfords, at any rate. At least you can easily keep parade boots shiny; keeping oxfords shiny require more effort than getting an A in discrete mathematics.

Besides, perfectly shiny parade boots look infinitely better than shiny oxfords. Shiny parade boots look keen and professional, shiny oxfords look like over-shiny civvie shoes.

Finally, I wanted to antagonize all that posted in that "I hate parade boots" thread, because shining boots is one of the few "army" things I'm good at.  ;D

You're not alone Fred, I find polishing boots/shoes to be a great stress buster. And I've had years of practice doing them.  When I was a kid, my dad for a punishment, would send us all off to spit and polish all the shoes and boots in the house.  It was the only time growing up that my brothers were quiet so I got to enjoy it for the peaceful break.

And here I thought I was the only person in the world who actually likes polishing boots.. just not when I really, really have to, like right now, although my boots are already pretty good.

I just hate "overshining," as in when your boots are pretty much perfect and you decide to just go over them once more to make them perfect... and end up ruining an hour of work, and have to start all over again.

An ex_RSM likes shiny boots..... esp all his former troops footwear »:)

Ok, I know people may think I'm crazy here, but I'm one of those dudes that likes just sitting and shining my boots. Find it kind of relaxing. I don't generally like wearing them, because that means I've also got to ready the rest of my DEU, but I'm cool with the boots.

I also like cleaning weapons. Both I find are just a relaxing, generally low-stress, menial task.

I'm with you Des, I also like polishing brasses and silver.  Hubs and the kid can always tell when I'm all stressed out, I'm polishing the brass or shining boots.  Mind you, have you ever had your 18 month old crawl up to your shoes/boots and reach for the toe cap and dig their sharp little nails in?

No 18 month olds, or any age-olds for me, so Nope....Generally scuffs come from something caused by booze ;)

I find doing dishes very relaxing.........how pathetic is that?

When we got our new dishwasher in our last house it used to drive wife crazy when I would open it and take the dishes out and wash them by hand.

I'm the sorta person that waits until the stack of dirty dishes is wedged firmly between the countertop and ceiling before I break down and do them.

Investing in paper plates might be a good idea. :)

This is what I have done. I use the paper plates when I'm alone and only take out the real dishes when i have people over.

Bruce: I'm hearing the twilight Zone music playing now...after doing the entire household's boots and shoes, polishing the brasses and silver, my hands would be stuck in the polishing position so I'd do the dishes to relax the hands...LOL When I was at school and writing for hours, I'd get up and do the dishes to relax me.  But then, I also love ironing and bemoaned when everything became a polyester blend.  I even have my own music to iron by...LOL

Yes you are crazy ;D

I would rather visit my dentist to have 10 root cannal procedures done, thank You.

I do the ironing if i'm bored. I've been known to spent up to 3 ironing in one stretch ironing my Poly shirt...just my poly shirt. Nothing else. The bloody thing has started to go a little leathery because of the constant attention. In certain lights the collar reflects light...Wes would know what i'm talking about!

I LOVE uniforms!!

The keen abilities of the RCRs in this department are one of the very few select benefits of marriage to one of them!!  >:D

I love a well kept uniform myself, I've been a little outspoken on dress threads any way. as for ankle boots, love em (the old ones anyway) easy to polish, look good to wear, the ladies love em (at least my lady) oxfords, crap to shine not bad to wear (and now I'm an officer and expected to wear the more than ankle boots) but either way well polished (and trust me I'm sure I narrowly missed divorce a few times but shutting my cakehole and going to the basement with a sixpack to shine and watch the hockey game) with a properly pressed uniform (and yes navy types your ncd's can be pressed... and worn with ankle boots or oxfords) they say something about a soldier (insert sailor or airman at will) it speaks to dedication and pride, and a physical manifestation of "service before self." now some can polish some can't, some can Iron some can't. You can always trade your talents for things your not good at (before becoming an officer I used to make 3-400 bucks the month before guys went on JLC, 10 Bucks per pair of boots/shoes X 3 pairs per person X # of guys going on course, pays your beer money pretty quick.
