Turns out all BMQ courses near the urban centres in Ontario are full, cancelled, or have started already.  Does anyone know of any locations that would have a spot for BMQ? I'm willing to travel anywhere.  Does anyone wanna withdraw and let me in? haha. I'm just really disappointed that I'm not going to BMQ this summer.  September seems so far away...

is there BMQ courses in ontario in sept.? i thought i would have to wait until january at least since   my med file isnt back yet and i missed this years summer BMQ start date. If there are courses in sept. that would be great!

I believe there's a BMQ course round the end of July out here at Chilliwack. That's what I'm shooting for.

Don't quote me on this though.

Contact your Operations Officer, he/she should be in charge of getting you a spot on courses/taskings (I assume you are in the reserves)

I can understand that you're annoyed that you aren't going to get to go this summer, but unfortunately, this isn't the way the army works.  Nothing that you can do at this point is going to get you on a course.  Your unit will not, ordinarily, be able to put you on a course outside of their area, and there's zero chance that you could get yourself loaded on one.  If there was any chance of you going, then you'd have heard it by now, unfortunately.

As for this:

That isn't a good idea, either.  If you're at the point where you're ready to go away on a course, then I assume that you've been sworn in.  That means that you're officially a member of the military, and you will have an official supervisor.  The unit recruiter is probably still responsible for you.  Even if the recruiter isn't your supervisor, I guarantee that the unit Ops O isn't your boss.  One of the things that you will learn about ad nauseum on BMQ is the chain of command.  You don't just skip a few links on that bad boy.  Not only is calling the unit Ops O up out of the blue going to be non productive, but it's going to get you a blast of shit, too.  There's nothing wrong with calling your supervisor up and asking him what the deal is, but don't call the Ops O directly.

I don't know how it works where you are but here everyone is welcome to knock on the Ops O door anytime they want (just as you can go see the finacial/admin clerk without having to worry about the COC). This is especially true at this time (summer) where units dont have scheduled trainings which makes the passing of a message up the chain very long. As long as he acts professional (no whining) and explains his reasons I'm confident he wont get a blast unless of course he was  told not to contact anyone except his immediate supervisor.

I have crossed many in the reserves who think this is an acceptable practice and I know of units that operate this way.  It is wrong.

The Ops staff have a lot of responsibilities and should not be expected to find the time to deal with every soldier's concernces individually.  Course & Task oportunities are to be comunicated through the chain of command.  Replies are to be sent back through the chain of command.  Not only does this make life easier for the Ops staff, but it ensures that nominations are prioretized and the most deserving go (and not just the guy that happened to be in the door at the right time).  If you want something (course or task) and you are not hearing anything, you must ask through your chain of command.
