Hello all troopers, i am Ivan, ncie to meet you all. I am from Vancouver, BC and i have been studying in canada for 4 years as an oversea student, currently my parents immigration status had been granted , so did mine too......... it has been 10 months since i became a permaneant resident here............ i would love to join the army reserve.because i dont want my dad to work so hard in order to pay for my tuition, i also wana learn about discpline and my future goal is to be a cops.Currently i am majoring in crim and this is my 2nd year. Unfortunately, i have heard from ppl that , army reserve do not recruit permaneant immigrant anymore >.< .....that`s really sad..i would really want to learn different skills without getting paid...but then anyway............any 1 here has any information about immigrant joining army reserve???  Thanks very much in advance.

Ivan.

I think that the best advice you will get here is to go into your local Det of the CFRC and get the answer straight from the horses mouth. They are the ones who are paid to answer these questions, use them.

Good luck

As scott1nsh said, your best bet would be to either call them, or go down there Monday. They'll be able to answer your questions, and show you what you need to do to apply.

Thanks a lot, i really appreciate ....from my heart........ hope that i can be one of yours.....

Here's the quick and easy:

You NOW need to be a Canadian Citizen to apply to the ResF, unless you are applying for a specialized position that they (CFRC) have problems filling with CDN citizens. Such trades include doctors, dentists, padres, etc.

This all came about post-Sept 11.

My view on this is that you will not have much of a chance getting into the Infantry or Armoured, etc. You can, however, still apply, but there is no guarantee that they will accept you.

IN FACT, I strongly urge you to apply, just in case you can sneak in. And don't take 'no' or 'I don't think so' for an aswer when talking to a recruiter. Hand them your application and see what happens.

To be honest (and I'm NOT saying this as a recruiter, but as Joe Bystander), this policy would likely NOT stand up against a Canadian Human Rights Commission complaint.

In fact, I think it's a matter of time before some applicant gets pissed off that the system is discriminating against them by not allowing them to join (because, as a landed immigrant, they are legally entitled to work in Canada).

In fact, many other nation's armed forces accepts foreign applicants -- for example, the US, UK, and New Zealand.

all right, thanks so much for the info, thx for your encouragement!!  ^,^

I do not want to discourage you but CF Security Clearance takes too much time if you did not stay last 10 years in Canada (even if you are a Canadian citizen), that sometime you think it is not worth it. One hand they discourage qualified applicants because of their background, on the other hand they say they have manpower shortages.

Up in till last year, landed Immigrants could join the Reserves but no longer.
Now you must be a Citizen.

yea, it took me around 3 months for that background check. (I am Citizen, but stay around 7 yrs)

...and Australia too  8) , but there is strict criteria for this.

Ivan, Good on ya for taking such keen interest in the CF.

The main key to it all is if you come from another country other than a British Commonwealth nation, say Russia, Iran or Iraq, that country must co-operate and provide documentation to back up who you are, and what you have done, etc. Especially if there was any military service.

Allied security checks can only go so far, and although you are a Landed Immigrant, they don't really have a clue what you or your family were doing 10 yrs back.

Many of these other nations refuse to release and such documents, and therefore your application in the CF could easily be denied.

However as said in above posts, give it a go, and put an application in. There is no harm in trying.

Times have changed in this post 11 Sep world.

Best of luck.

Wes
