NEW DELHI - A man in southern India married a female dog in a traditional Hindu ceremony as an attempt to atone for stoning two other dogs to death.

The Hindustan Times reports P. Selvakumar married the sari-draped former stray named Selvi, who was chosen by family members and then bathed and clothed for the ceremony

Selvakumar told the paper he had been suffering since he stoned two dogs to death and hung their bodies from a tree 15 years ago.

He said that after the stoning, he became paralyzed in his hands and legs and lost hearing in one ear.

The paper says an astrologer had told Selvakumar the wedding was the only way he could cure the maladies. It did not say whether his situation had improved.

After the wedding, the paper reports that the groom and his family sat down to a feast while the dog got a bun.

Does this mean that friends and family can now really accuse him of 'scr@wing the pooch' when he doesn't show up for work?

- I guess the dog must be from a much lower caste.

:D

I wonder if the dog's family offered up a dowry?

...."I offer 5 lbs of "Kibbles and Bits" if you marry my daughter."

So....the next question is, which family gained more in this arranged marriage?

Either way, the kids are going to be ugly.

These mixed marriages never work , then there the matter of both parties social standing .....I mean hows the dog going to deal with her lowered standing in  her ethnic  community . Oh you can just hear them howling now. ;)

I feel bad for the dog.  She's just setting herself up for a lifetime of abuse.  He does have a history of it.  ;)

Just think of the touching romantic moments they can spend together - Candlelit evenings soaking in a flea and tick bath, mutual de-worming, tummy rubs, dragging their butts on the carpet for a good scratch.

Then again, maybe they'll get separated citing irreconcilable differences......she kept peeing on the carpet, he couldn't lick his own b@lls and wouldn't stop asking.....

Don't be so cynical, love will build and they will bond as soulmates over the course of their moon-lit evening walks together, hand-in-paw.

- That would be preferable - 'hand in paw' - as there are those who would have cultural issues with the leash thing.

- What does the animal rights crowd think of these arranged marriages?

Gives a whole new meaning to the words "doggy style".....  :-X
