You might want to start with the section titled Soldier and the Infantry in the Infantry FAQ:

Infantry FAQ   --   http://army.ca/forums/threads/17067.0.html

There's really no 'average' age that people may leave the infantry. Some depart after a three year Basic Engagement, others leave for civvie street or remuster any time after that, and some pull 20-35 years in the Infantry before retirement. It's all depends on the individual.

is it possible to retire from infantry with a full pension? if so then how long do you need to stick with it before you can retire with it?

justyn

With upcoming changes to the pension structure, by the time you get there you will need 25 years service to be able to retire with a pension of approximately 50% of your annual pay at that time.

so that 8-ball was right when it told me "outlook not so good"...haha

Our current CO, Lieutenant Colonel Villiger, was a Lieutenant in 1987 when I joined, and I think a corporal in 1985.  Give yourself 20 years.

OK.. i plan on being in for more then that... i plan to work in the Reserves next year (I turn 16 next year) until i am 17 or 18 and then i will work my way up for about until i get booted out for being too old.... i would say "lol" but i am being WAY serious... I hope this will work out!! :salute: :cdn:

AspiringL.I.  good luck. I feel the same way.
Just remember not to consintrate too much on where you wanna be in 20 years because you'll miss all the fun ranks ;)

And if you find a rank you really like, stick with it.  I made corporal the same year you were born, AspiringL.I.!!  And I'm still there, and still loving it.

Ok, that was one thing that I was curious about. So, they can't force you to take a promotion?

Jonsey,

They can force you to take a promotion, and can release you if you refuse it. Usually from what I've seen they won't though. It depends on your trade and unit. So take your time and smell the roses.

The corporal who worked in our QM refused a promotion, he typed up his memo requesting release and handed in his kit before the Officers even got wind of it! They quickly reversed their decision. I know that some may say that this bending them over a barrel and not the proper attitude but this guy had a point, he had a good job (Owner of a home heating oil company) and chose to attend what ex's he could, it all fit into his schedule and had to or his business would bite it. He was well respected and the sort of person that a young troop goes to to learn more about the Unit and its history. He was a valued member in my opinion who just had no desire to go on an ISCC.

thanks for those replies guys.. yeah If I find a good rank I will stick with it!!1 But I am just actually looking to be a special trained sort.. I am so dedicated to what i do I want to reach for the best skils i can get!!!  I will be taking a LOAD of training... almost all of te possiblities!! or ALL!!! :salute: :cdn:

The thing is you don't know what being in the next rank is like. Some people are comfortable as followers, and that is fine. But it is easy to criticize people in Leadership ranks when all you have to think about is yourself... making decisions when they have an impact on others, and could mean the difference between life and death, is not easy. Lots of mistakes are made, and that is normal. It is part of the learning process.
Cpls like to think they run the Army  ;D but at the end of the day, when I issue orders, they pay attention and carry them out. If not, there are consequences...  ;)

Jungle... I am a follower.. and i am a leader.. i can be either at any time of my choosing...of course i mean to say i am flexible with it lol... but i would like to be a CO or I would like to be just plain highly trained... this is because I am not the type of person to just achieve normal standards.. If i am able to i go above and beyond.. this is why i have plans to take as mch extra training as i may get offered to me!!!  I hope i dont sound like someone who wants to be rambo... it'd be cool... but not too cool lol... I look for competition that makes a good/great fight BUT I also dont like losing.. which is also flexible.. im NOT a sore loser.. or i try not to be :-[ :o anyways Thanks for the reply..  :salute: :cdn:

Aspiring LI
Get in there and do do it. Don't worry for now about being a 'CO'.....  ;)

Its not that i WORRIED about being a CO... its just that I  was tauht to set goals.. and that is mine. that way I will be able to try harder for a good reason other hen this country needs a bigger army lol... either way I do hope to get more respect for my skills then my rank.. but I figured that if I had a higher rank... I could at least DEMAND respect lol.... thanks for that reply.. its an eye-opener. :salute: :cdn:

Although you tried to make a joke just some advice. Only the A** hole leader try and demand respect. a true leader is one who earns and merrits the respect he receives! :salute:

cool.. sorry for the bad humour... I am one to try and get where i wanna go.. i do hope to be the best.. but not yet of courese.. im not going to be the best for a LONG time because im too young for it.. i think....  thanks again for the advice and replies!!! :salute: :cdn:
