I want to join the infantry reserve but there is no infantry where I am(Saint John). I have heard that there are some regiments that provide transportation to those like me who are not near any infantry regiments. Just wondering if this is true and if there are any in N.B. that would offer this. Thanks.

I haven't heard of Reserve units picking people up; might just be people who are in the unit giving out rides to people they live near.

There is a transportation assisntance program available to reservists.
However,
1.  note that it must 1st be authorized - it's not an automatic entitlement.
2.  Even if you are authorized, the 1st 16Km travelled are not covered.
3.  In most areas, transportation assistance is limited to 80 km from the unit.

Yes there is an Infantry Reserve unit in Saint John.  It's the 1st Battalion, Royal New Brunswick Regiment, out of the armouries.  There are personel there on Tuesday and Thrusday nights.  I know this as I used to be with that unit.  If you want, PM me and I will get you the contact information for the unit

From this page: http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/37CBG_HQ/About37.htm

THE 1ST BATTALION, THE ROYAL NEW BRUNSWICK REGIMENT (CARLETON AND YORK)

The 1st Battalion The Royal New Brunswick Regiment (Carleton and York) is an Infantry Battalion with its Regimental HQ in Fredericton, NB.  It has three companies (Coy) located in Fredericton, Edmundston and Grand Falls and a platoon located in Saint John, NB.

Good luck to you.

Well, from what Ive heard talking to the recruiter for 89th bty, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, since they are in Woodstock and have members in Fredericton they have a bus that leaves Oromocto making a stop at the Fredericton Campus of UNB. Which then ultimately goes up to Woodstock and back down at the end of the parade night. As for the 8th Canadian Hussars, they told me today (as a matter of fact I just got off the phone with the recruiter) they have two busses. One that leaves Oromocto for the detatchment in Sussex, and one that leaves Fredericton (the UNB campus) for Moncton. Just a 15 passenger bus that leaves at around 17:00-18:00 to get to the detatchment for 19:00. They told me that they have a recruiter at the Sussex detatchment Tuesday and Thursday night, as well at the Moncton detatchment Thurdsays only for now, but they will eventually have someone in the office on Tuesday evenings.

As for Infantry the only detatchment I know of is the 1 RNBR here in Fredericton that parades Thursday nights. As for transportation Im not sure if they offer any, but the recruiter is in (according to their recruitment package) Monday-Friday 08:00-16:00 and on Thursday nights 19:00-22:00. Hope this helps.

I am in that unit on the sup list actually trying to get back in and they have people there on monday and wednesday nights now training is now on monday so show up monday that is your best option, pm me and I will give you their number.

There's also 2 RNBR (NS) on the eastern half
Currently, 2RNBR (NS) fills the role as a light infantry battalion. It is comprised of three rifle companies and a Battalion Headquarters. These companies are located in Campbellton, Bathurst, and Miramichi, with Headquarters collocated with B Company in Bathurst. The Unit currently services an area that includes the entire eastern half of New Brunswick from Campbellton to Moncton.

Of course, if it was me, I'd join the 89th Battery, rayman  8)

Talking to the recruiter they seem like a good bunch Muskrat. My only worry is if DP1's and SQ's are only run over the summer and not over weekends during the year (as 8CH did tell me this...im not sure about 3FAR) then I might not be able to do the reserve thing after all... I was looking at 1 RNBR as its closer and im not sure but with a pretty large unit they might run some courses other than Basic over the training year.
