Are you awarded your cab badge after SQ. Or is it that you are allower to wear one after SQ?

As MikeM said in June, you wear the Infantry cap badge after SQ, then the unit cap badge after BIQ. But this thread is supposed to be about the badge on the sleeve of the DEU.

CQMS,
You are correct if you do put on the Level 4 Inf Badge as it is now worn on completion of DP3A Small Arms or for the applicable Advanced course. Example: Adv Recce =Level 4 Crown, Crossed Bayonets and Wreath.

Cheers,

PS Uncle Dougie is a old WO of mine who has never been wrong ever. Sadly he has been posted.
What would be the applicable badge if you are not fully PLQ qualified (mods 1-5) yet have completed an advanced course?  Just the wreath?

DD

are talking Adv Comms or something like that?

If you are it's not a "True" Adv course on par with say Adv Recce etc etc, and also until you are qualified the QL4 badge would remain the same the wreath with bayonet (non Suppot course ie: Recce)

Well, CQCI to be exact.  Maybe not on par with Advanced Recce but I'm curious as I was told a Crown sans wreath would apply but I have my doubts.

The problem with the trade badges is it not spelled out anywhere what each level is, all the dress manual says is that there is 4 levels not what the levels corrospond to.  All it says is "
Army occupation badges indicate both occupation and qualification level. The level
worn shall accord with qualification instructions issued by branch advisers"
I have never seen qualifications instructions issued. (If anyone has seen them please post them). So right now we are just going off of rumours and what the unit's have traditional done.  With each organization being different.

Hence my question to see what the "general rule" was.

So then I should be able to obtain Lvl 1 and wear it since I finished BIQ (QL3, DP1)?  A bit off topic, how about crossed rifles for passing PWT3 during BIQ?

CQCI is an instructor course yes but not an Adv course as far as I know, I can check on monday and see.

So I think my above would apply

SL: For you it's the single bayonet or for completing BIQ no wreath or crown. And Cross rifles if you passed PWT lvl3 as a marksmen.

The Close Quarter Combat cell in Meaford stated to the last CQCI course that it was an advanced course.  It makes sense as the role of the CQCI is to instruct and to advise the CO on CQB maters.  Of course nowdays the only course for the Infantry that is labeled advanced is Advanced Reece. Have to add Advanced Winter Warfare, Advanced Sniper and Advanced Mountain OP's as I forgot about them.

So then the standard is now if it's an instructor course it's advanced?

All CQCI is, is the unarmed combat instructor course, the actually CQB course is UOI (Urban Operations Instructor) course. Those who are UOI I certainly see advising the CO on CQB etc etc. What is a CQCI going to advise on how to kick and punch?

I'm a GPS instructor does that mean I am Adv lvl qualified, I don't think so.

I don't make the rules though so who am I?

Advanced Gunner(y) as well for us LAV types.

Advanced gunner is now called "Army Direct Fire Specialist" they changed the course and wrote a new TP with the pilot course took place last fall.  So I have no idea what is an advanced course these days.

It would have been nice if they would have awarded us these badges at the end of course.  It doesn't feel right just going and asking for them especially since no one else from my course received them either, except for one that managed to get a hold of cross rifles from a friend.

The lvl 1 Qual badge is something everyone gets themselves.

If it makes feel better you can wait until you achieve marksman on your first Bn PWT before going and getting them put up at the tailor.

I don't think it's the fact that it's an instructor course that makes it, supposedly, an advanced course.  There are many "advanced" techniques taught on the CQCI course that are not included on the CQCB course whatsoever.  Impact weapons and non-lethal chemical weapons (oc spray) for one.  You are not simply taught how to instruct a CQCB course.
