Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

Medium gang. I dont know why but I always found 522s worked better in vehicles when set on Medium.

Its by design at this point when it comes to comms kit. Its been how many years since manpacks were removed from the system and to this day there hasnt been a reliable replacement in the reserves. Some leased Barrett radios are ok but kinda janky. Never enough when needed. There was one that was colloquially called "Israeli radio" but I cant remember the acrual name, they sucked.
I miss the 522. It was a giant pain carrying it in your ruck sack with six spare batteries, but it actually worked.

They never should have divested it. Great piece of kit if you knew what you were doung.

Maybe when it came out. By the mid 2000s there were much better options like 117F that could work across multiple wave forms. 522 was extremely limited in what if could do - ie single channel VHF, which again outdated for decades. We like it because its easy, in actuality we were doing what would get us killed. Medium power VHF is still omni directional and easy to find. Get up on newer wave forms that can keep you below the noise floor. Or keep strapping leaves to your truck while glowing on the em spectrum.

Removed from dismounted because a 152 pushes it better while being able to work across more wave forms and even that is being replaced by 163s with tsm

Why they removed dismounted capability from them I will never know.
GDMS is dogshit at providing capability and has built an empire on minimum viable product. They have folks who take 1990s tech and put buzz words overtop of it to confuse DLCSPM into buying their shit.
