I was just on, one of the American broads and came across an interesting post. The Marine Corp is changing their BDU‘s to a style very much like the new Cadpat‘s. They do have a few improvements that I‘m not sure we have but should. Like elasticized cargo pockets and a new shoulder pocket which makes sence as access to the others if blocked in full gear. So maybe we started something and before you know it, every army in Nato will look canadians. :p

Here is the link if you want to check them out

My understanding is that it is called MARPAT and that the USMC has patented it. One of the things I like about the new pattern is that the woodland version emphasizes brown tones. The green that is used in the current US woodland pattern does not occur often in nature (too vibrant). The same applies for true black. Usually the colour is actually an extremely dark blue or brown that appears "black".

The stuff about the elasticized pockets sounds pretty handy.

The U.S. Marines considered adopting CADPAT for their new pattern, however the Canadian government owns the copyright for the pattern. The Canadian government supplied information and manufacturers to help the Marines with the computer-generated Digital Pattern pixilated uniform the Canadians had been developing since 1988. - http://www.hyperstealth.com/CADPAT-MARPAT.htm

That guy from HYPERSTEALTH is an idiot and has been told so. He has made MANY assumptions about MARPAT and has published a lot of garbage. Just read the pages he has an the info he has about MARPAT and you can figure it out on your own. Especially the part about how the insignia was hidden in the pattern. He could not be more wrong in his assumptions.

If you really want to know how MARPAT was designed, look here http://www.militarymorons.com/misc/misc.html#marpat

The only thing the U.S. Marines got from the Canadians was the simple IDEA of the digital pattern. That is why they payed homage to the Canadians by giving their pattern the -PAT suffix.
However, that is as far as the Marines went in consulting with the Canadians about the pattern.
