They have a 'need' for the bases, the air bases for certain. Hence why Spain was smack across the knuckles and the UK as well with Diego Garcia.

And yet both got back in line and still weren't consulted or invited.

Yes you’re right. They always went alone when bigfooting around Latin America.

There were a handful of Caribbean countries that joined them in Grenada.

Iran will not be like their previous Latin American actions.

I haven't read anything that Spain has changed its decision. I've only read that US planes were forced to operate elsewhere. Has there been reports that Spain is allowing US planes to use its bases for attacking Iran?

The Brits will do just about anything, possibly even throwing a fellow Commonwealth member under the bus, in order to keep their 'special' relationship alive.

Allies generally adds legitimacy to whatever action they undertake.

Honestly I wasn't paying attention. And still the US went ahead with its operation and didn't consult them or invite them. Skipped right over them perhaps ? Who needs who ?

I am sure the US loves its bases in Spain, Naval Station Rota is a lot of fun for example, but the US can still power project and sustain with out it.

I am really curious why the Iranian navy is sallying out? Suicidal heroism? Hoping to get at least one kill? They must know that the minute they start moving the countdown is on.

They had god on their side and he would protect them deliver them righteous vengeance upon the invader! That or the choice was sortie or watch your family get shot. Or maybe they regime has managed to control information so well that they were able to lie to the crew and made them believe it was safe to sortie? Lots of options.

Arguably a giant US military base in a sufficiently vacated and cleansed Gaza should permanently meet all of their Mediterranean basing needs.

The US can't do jack shit economically against Spain because they are 1 of 27 in the EU trade agreement. Germany has already publicly stated this at the White House in front of Trump. Who's to say that another and another EU country says, nah, we don't want you using bases within our country for this purpose. I mean look, Denmark announced yesterday that it was signing an agreement with France regarding nuclear deterrence. Would this have even been possible 14 months ago? As I've said elsewhere on here, all it takes is 1 person to change things up - either for the good or the bad.

I don't disagree with you - but, would they be willing to lose/leave behind every single base outside of the UK within Europe? The only potential presence they would have in the Med 'might' be Cyprus IF the UK granted them. Currently the UK has NOT given them permission to use Cyprus at all.

Its a long flight from Lossiemouth to the Turkey/ME.

Lastly, this current clown show very well might just be shut down come November if the Maga's lose both Houses. It's starting to feel a bit like the Last 100 days of the 3rd Reich right now - and NO, I'm NOT comparing politically, or morally, the 2 of them - I'm referring to the final days of a political entity and its flaying around to survive and to try to push through at whatever costs its last policies.

Lots of counties don't have bases all over but still manage to move people and stuff around.

I also think those European bases are worth more to the Europeans if they keep the Americans there than if they ask them to leave.

Europe will stop their feet, but they won't bite the hand that feeds them.
