For someone not shy to engage, you are doing a lot of bemoaning that an in-contact asset engaged a target instead of stalking it while dragging another asset into the fight. You are prepared to compromise surprise and economy of effort, which can cost missed opportunities and lives.

I found a literal interpretation to be an amusing image.
Do any of us actually believe those ships were unarmed? Honestly that sounds more like social media BS that’s taken on a life of its own. I read elsewhere that the ex even had a live fire component.
Might be that their posture was visibly lower, but I donmt imagine many countries would send their ships out defenseless…

Great question. Having read reports from India media and on the exercise itself, they do state that the ships were to be 'unarmed'. It could be that the foreign warships/planes were to be unarmed but that the Indian ships would be armed?

I’m not a boaty guy. Is this maybe gonna be some distinction like “loaded” versus “readied”? (Obviously more technical than that)- but weapons states designed to utterly prevent the possibility of an ND?
It seems utterly implausible to me that naval vessels would have all their ship’s weapons unloaded for a transit to an exercise, the ex itself, then transit back.
But this is a situation where I don’t know what I don’t know; all I’ve got is a stinky sniff test.

No no. What I'm saying is that the delivery platform (in this case, a P8) is at less potential risk from the Dera than the submarine is. While its clear that the Dera was not in any way aware of the submarine's presence, it at least had the capability of engaging the submarine with it's own torpedoes (although, some recent reporting is indicating that the ship may not have had any weapons aboard). The P8, on the other hand, can fire on the Dera from far outside the SAM range of the Dera's missiles.
