They are going to do all they can to make life tougher for Trump from now to the mid terms.
And they will calibrate their attacks so as not to make "Defeat Iran now because of all the damage they just created" an effective rallying cry for the mid-terms.
I'd hope that even the current administration learned the lessons of the last 40 years well enough to know that's a bad idea.

The US gave them tons of great kit, might as well get a return on it. Plus if the russians or Iran kill them then that weapons Afghanistan for you know who to come back.
I have quite a bit of real world experience in this realm, albeit mostly with Iraq. The US Congress released funds to CENTCOM to buy eqpt from US manufacturers. The manufacturers are big supporters of the various PACs etc. They support members of Congress who will ensure that "Foreign Assistance" is also "Corporate Welfare", and "Political Fundraising". Not a single altruistic intent in that sordid process.
Canadian foreign aid also is problematic with its industry ties.
