Iran Super Thread- Merged

And impeachment. And prosecution. Unfortunately, no one with the power to do so, Republicans who aren’t zealots or yes-men in cabinet and Congress who gave up their testes and their spines, will do so.

When on exchange, Americans using to regularly ask me about the monarchy and parliamentary system. I usually gave a full throated defence. And then they would talk about the separation of powers and checks and balances. Watching the Trump era, I feel very vindicated.

The only problem with that is when somebody gets in office, they become consumed by the power and don’t want to give it up. Look at Biden. During the 2020 election, It was evident to many that he didn’t have the stamina to stay in the game more than an year or two and that he would step down early so that Kamala could take the reins. But he stayed, wanted another term and had to be talked out of it too late in the election campaign to allow the party to build a winning candidate.

I believe the term you're looking for is Hubris.

And I would argue that the reason is that people whose job it was to protect and defend the Constitution were spineless jellyfish and failed to do their job to hold him to account.

I can't believe that guy got a pass after Jan 6th. After that, I don't buy any checks and balances bullshit from Americans. No consequences then is why him, his family and his cronies believe they are untouchable now. And they aren't wrong on that.

I'm not really tracking how this would lower prices? If anything it'll trigger a big retaliation if Iran isn't already planning something close to the midterms, thus doing the opposite of what the US wants.
Sit down and shut up. Bombing the hell out of Iran some more will definitely lower gas prices. Foolproof plan, flawless victory.

Are we done overflowing the politics dumpster or does this need a lock?

Bloomberg has an interesting article interviewed an oil tanker captain about the experience of sailing the Strait of Hormuz.

Sounds to me like the navigational risks are probably right up there with the risk of attack. The one hard bit of data in the article is unidentified shipping execs quoted as estimating a one in twenty chance a ship will get hit on a voyage.

Ships are costing much more and crew are getting paid much more. Even with total flows mostly back up where they were, it looks like cost is way up, and that will continue to play out down the whole supply chain.

Attacks continue, and yesterday UKMTO reported a ship struck my multiple projectiles, with injuries, well inside the Gulf just off Qatar, potentially the Capetan Andreas, an Aframax tanker. Likely exactly the sort of ship doing the Hormuz shuttle runs to transfer ship to ship to VLCC/ULCC in the Gulf of Oman.

He's trying to jawbone/threaten Iran into giving him breathing room. Till the election. His nightmare is a massive Iranian attack like a week before the election that massively spikes prices.

Leak Reveals Trump Plot for Stunning Election-Day Surprise

The president is plotting a major move as his party faces disaster.

Donald Trump is considering fresh military strikes against Iran before the midterm elections in a desperate bid to win back wavering Republican voters, according to an explosive new report.

The 80-year-old president has repeatedly suggested that the war, which began in February, could intensify after the Nov. 3 elections. But the White House has now instructed the Pentagon to prepare options for attacks that could take place before Americans head to the polls, The Atlantic reported Wednesday.

Two administration officials told the magazine that military planners have been instructed to identify possible targets. This has raised the prospect of Trump restarting major hostilities weeks before an election in which his unpopular war has become a major drag on Republican candidates.

I'm confused about how that is supposed to help anything?
