I believe it’s bullshit that the U.S. asked for such a symbolic strike. It would be absurd to think Iran would agree, and embarrassing to have revealed if true.I don't see why it would be "bullshit".
If you are the government of country at war (say Iran, for instance), why on earth would agree to a "request" by the other side to let them bomb a part of your country (any part, regardless of use) as a "one-off, non-retaliated" strike?
The opposite - agreeing to such a strike - would be the position that would strike (pun intended) me as odd.
