San Bernardino, CA (AHN) - Laura Lee Medley, who claimed that she was a paraplegic and repeatedly filed lawsuits for noncompliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, turned out to be a con with no physical limitations according to authorities.
According to officials, Medley leaped out of her wheelchair and ran for freedom after being arrested by Las Vegas police.
David Wert, a spokesman for San Bernardino County, said, "That's where the great miracle occurred. She made a break for it, leading police on a brief foot pursuit before she was captured."
Medley has claimed that she had broken her arm three times in eight weeks, two to her left arm and one to her right arm.
Medley is being charged with filing false documents, attempted grand theft and two counts of insurance fraud. She will be in a Las Vegas jail until she is extradited to San Bernardino.
