I want to join. I am 20 and dropped out of school 2 months into grade 10 (so I have no credits) I attended CDI college (Diploma program) but I dropped it because I could no longer pay to attend (was a waste of money anyway) As well, I am out of shape. 250 lbs / 6‘3. I can only do 1 pushup, but I can do all the situps I want, and 2 chinups. I have no medical problems other than an allergy to Amoxicilan (not serious).

I had always thought it was easy to join the army... Sign your name and they toss you in. If I had known I would have done things differently in my life as I have always wanted to join in the back of my head, but not till now really had an urge to join.

What do I need to do to join? Will my schooling be a problem? I currently took a paper route purly for the practice running (hey.. why not get paid for it?) and to get use to early mornings.

Any suggestions/Comments welcome.

Thanks

Oh yeah, I have a large amount of debt I can not longer keep up with payments for. If I claim bankruptcy... will they care?

Go talk to your local Recruiting Centre. They will explain what you need to achieve before you can apply.

Hi Chris;
First of all, CDI college is a great college and it would have been a benefit for you to receive a diploma.
You need at least a grade 10 to be accepted into the forces.
Debt is frowned upon especially if you are not paying your bills.
If you claim bankruptcy, they will care. You will not qualify until you are discharged from the bankruptcy by the courts which will take anywhere from 9 months to a year if this is your first time.
You must be in good physical condition to be able to withstand the basic training and to qualify in the first place.
The fact that you dropped school and college does not show determination.
A large portion of your training is furthering your education in order to do your trade effectively.
Suggestion: go back to school and finish your education first, get rid of the debt, and start working on your own self improvement. Take some time to focus on these things and then give it a shot. If you really want this, you can make it happen.
But don‘t take only my advice, go to the recruiting office near you, and speak to someone. They are very helpful people.
Good Luck.
Cath
