JTF-2 Selection

Mr. Seggie,

I'm sorry if I crossed the line with my question. I asure you it was by accident. Could you please clarify your comment becasue I don't really understand what you meant. Thank You.

With respect,

Michael K.

Applying to JTF2 as a Assaulter or CSOR as a Operator are both very hard, do not think that there is a easy route those kind of SOF jobs.

The specific traits, etc that each unit is looking for is not for public release/those outside of the units.

Sorry to be rude but I am sure there are some folk who read our posts that mean us harm.... :Tin-Foil-Hat:

Hey Mike,

Just some advice. When you eventually get in, and go on military courses, you usually have to write an autobiography. I would suggest that you not mention your goals of serving in CANSOFCOM.  I've been on courses in my short career where half the candidates thought they were SF material. Just a few years later, I am one of the few even left in the military.

It's great to have goals, but it shows a lot of maturity to focus on the task at hand, while keeping the goals in the back of your head. Plus, you might find the odd instructor will give you a hard time if you write "I want to be JTF" or ask about it before you are even qualified to shoot a rifle.  Some people might even be jealous of you, or call you cocky etc.

Anyways you seem like a smart guy, so I am sure this will make sense to you. Infantry sounds like what you want, so go for that and excel. The only person I know of that I trained with who made CANSOFCOM excelled at his trade, topped at least one career course, kept fit, and above all was very mature and humble. I never heard him talk about going to CANSOF, he just went for it. He made it just fine.

Good luck!

Thanks Spectrum,

I see exactly what you mean. I try not to mention anything about JTF2 when talking to recruiters or CF members because, as you said, it makes me sound very juvenile and immature. For now I will focus on my immediate goals of Infantry and worry about everything else when I actually join.

Thanks again,

Michael K.

Hey, im thinking i'll apply to JTF-2 later on in my military career but I want to join a support trade of JTF-2. I was thinking of becoming a JTF-2 Signal Operator. My question is: Is a Signal Operator a support trade of JTF-2 or a specialist trade. I've been hearing support and specialist trades are 2 different things I also hear they are the same thing what's going on. I want to atleast be involved in some combat in JTF-2 but I don't think I would be able to pass the SOA or SOC courses. What support/specialist trade isn't as physically demanding as SOA or SOC but still be involed in combat atleast a little bit?

See the post above your's. Change Infantry for Signaler.

CADPAT15,  have you even started the process to join the Canadian Forces?  Are you of age to join up? Wondering since last year you were talking about cadets.  If you wish to join JTF2 keep that in the back of your head  for awhile until you get into the CF and do your courses to the best of your ability.

From memory by reading off their website,  Signal Operators can be employed as both Support and Specialists.  Supporter and Specialist roles are similar but different,  Specialists AFAIK directly support the Squadrons/Assaulters and won't be too far behind them.  As for involvement in combat,  that is a long ways away for you,  no need to worry about that now.  Who knows what future missions there may be - they may or may not involve combat.

For the physical side,  if you want to be a specialist you are going to have to be in good shape(as well as knowing your job/kit).  I believe if you wish to join as a Supporter you must do the Canadian Forces Express test,  but if you wish to join as a Specialist you will have to do the Coopers test and score minimum 75 points.

Again,  focus on the short term right now, getting into the Canadian Forces as ACISS - Army Sigs trades all merged into this.  Complete your BMQ, BMQ-Land, driver course, DP1 and be posted to a unit and learn as much as you can.  To join CANSOF you will need 2 years in before you can apply,  use that time to learn your job,  work on physical fitness, etc.  During the year CANSOF recruiters will visit the bases and give briefings,  attend one and learn about the unit,  and what they are looking for.  As well there will be CANFORGENs released about CANSOF recruiting.  Also you can contact their recruiters through email.  Don't expect them to tell you everything you want to know over the phone/email/in person,  some things you won't find out until you get into the unit.
