Selected for Signals Officer today – what’s the job like

Hey everyone,

I got a call today saying I’ve been selected to become a Signals Officer. It was actually my last choice when I ranked my preferences, so I’ll admit I don’t know a whole lot about the trade yet.

I’m trying to understand what the day-to-day life is like and what the actual tasks look like once you’re in a unit. What does a normal work day involve? Is it mostly planning and managing communications systems, or are you also hands-on with the equipment?

I’m also curious about things like field exercises, deployments, and how technical the job gets. Do Signals Officers spend a lot of time working with radios, networks, and comms infrastructure, or is it more leadership/coordination?

If anyone here is a Signals Officer (or has worked with them), I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience and what the job is actually like.

Thanks!
