Katy Perry ‘regrets public spectacle’ of Blue Origin space mission

Katy Perry ‘regrets public spectacle’ of Blue Origin space mission

Katy Perry is really getting beat up over this stunt.

Watching the space capsule door open from the inside then hurriedly shut so Jeff Bezos could be filmed using a special tool to open the door (just to have it pop open again) was awesome. They sure have hired the film crew from Fly Me to the Moon.

Having to walk back "First all-female space mission" probably didn't help the PR stunt.

I only clicked on this thread because I expected there to be an expression of regret from Perry about the "public spectacle" of her with Justin Trudeau. Oh well!
We're only 2 days into the new year man, gotta spread the 'big news' out a bit...

That was the fakest 'space mission' I have ever seen...

Not an astronaut indeed!!

Skipping over the numerous and obvious indicators that these ladies did NOT rocket to space, it even surpassed Elon Musk's own "Look, I launched a car into orbit! And it's a Tesla!" shenanigan.

...

What was the point of this? Like actually?

Women can be astronauts too? Yeah no shit, NASA hurdled that stand like 50 races ago...

Space is real? "Look, we're in it!"

Some sort of super shitty way to promote space tourism, somehow?

Female empowerment?

Like what the actual f**k did they think would be the response when they decided to air this on TV for the public?

...

One doesn't need to have a Masters in Aerospace Engineering to notice the capsule door PROBABLY shouldn't be that damn flimsy if it's a critical part of the whole thing.

Or that the capsule seems to magically change size & shape from the time it takes off to when Bezos & co are walking around it once landed...

I mean I hope people don't get too carried away with things, but these ladies have earned every bit of criticism they get...
I’m sorry. Is the general consensus here they weren’t in “space”?

It arced above 100km altitude (the ‘Karman Line’) so most will say *they were in space for a few minutes. It was sub-orbital, so some argue it wasn’t really spaceborne, just arcing through very thin Earth’s atmosphere. I’d say it was in space.

Whether the occupants of the capsule were astronauts or passengers is a debate to some. I’d say passenger. Someone who goes for a ride in a Waymo self-driving car is a passenger, not a driver.

Astronaut should be a qualification. If I take a cruise I am not a sailor. If I fly in a Herc I am not aircrew.

I have no issue saying they went to space. And if they want a little badge saying they did, cool. But astronaut should not be on their CV or accomplishments list.

Without caring in any real way, and as an opinion, astronauts are those that are trained and travel to “space” as part of a crew- inside that crew they have credentials like commander and pilot etc.

Soon a!n astronaut in a fubu sweatsuit will be drunk on a space flight he got an economy ticket on and need to be arrested at the space port.

Hmmmmmm...good question...

I don't know what the consensus is here on Army.ca...

But in my own circle of friends I think the consensus is that the whole thing was faked.

i guess I sort of assumed that was the consensus elsewhere...

...

What do we say, Army.ca...

Did these ladies actually go to space?

By the definition of space used by air forces and space organizations everywhere, they were in space. Are they astronauts? In the US, they are because they never updated the actual definition of the qualification: everyone who makes it into space, regardless of the way and in what position they make it, are qualified as astronauts.

Need I tell you that the definition is under review in the US?

Probably good to update that definition now...qualifications should matter.

Passengers? Yes. Astronauts? Far from.

...

I'm not convinced they went to space, personally...

- The footage of the launch looks animated to me. (And not even the greatest of animation, some DCS footage looks more realistic...in my opinion)

- The size of the craft appears larger when launched than it does post landing

- The size and spacing of the windows seem different also (pre launch vs post landing)

- I haven't been able to find any footage from inside the capsule of them landing. Nor have I seen any footage of the inside of the capsule during takeoff.

There is clearly a camera inside the capsule, so why can't we find any footage of the launch or landing from inside the craft?

- I don't see any breathing apparatus' on any of the walls - which I assume might come in handy if there is a malfunction with the life support systems.

If airliners have a drop down oxygen mask, I would think spaceships would too... 🤷‍♂️

- Their reactions seem fake, planned, and underwhelmed.

Compare their reactions to when William Shatner went to space & came back? He was almost speechless, shed tears, and was trying to process what he had just seen...

These ladies were too busy showing us that one of their best friends (who is a stuffed animal) had made it to space...like really?

No visors or screens, but directly looking at the sun? (It's pretty bright, even down here on Earth with approx 10km of atmospheric gasses between the surface & the upper layers of the atmosphere...I'm guessing it would be really bright from up there!)

- The flimsy door that just swung open, that they quickly had to reclose so that Jeff Bezos could run in & re-open it with some big device. (Despite the camera clearly showing the door having already just been open...)

...

In my own opinion, I remain unconvinced that these ladies actually went to space...

Maybe they did 🤷‍♂️

But until I see some more compelling evidence, I remain skeptical

By that definition, would James Doohan qualify?

Being asked to redo things is atypical with PR people around. Even the iconic flag raising over Iwo Jima is a reenactment.

But that's exactly my point...it's a PR stunt.
An act.

I honestly hate always sounding like the crazy guy, but I have a gut

With a few impressive layers of disillusion thrown into the mix to make it seem more believable.

- They bussed a crowd out to the landing site??

Because it looks like they are in the middle of the desert, close to nowhere. So I'm assuming 'the press' all came in on a bus or two...

- Who organized and executed this whole thing, anyway? Definitely a PR firm. Maybe also a Studio? (When you're as rich as this jackass is, there are options...)

- Did they leave the ladies in the probably roasting hot capsule until the crowd arrived & got set up?

Because the crowd certainly wasn't already there waiting...

Not when what you're waiting for is a bloody rocket ship plummeting down at your heads like a giant death dart, going Mach 8000, and that's going to blast it's engine right before it lands - violently scorching everything even remotely close to being under it.

Or in this case, where we'll let this capsule just glide it's way down to the surface. Going anywhere the wind takes it. Which, oh my, well that's amazing...it...it just landed exactly where the crowd was positioned...

But this was just a very gentle assist in creating the impression this whole thing went so darn smooth it can only described d as perfect. Flawless, even.

They even use the que words to peak people's interest, and subconsciously make them feel like they are a part of something "historic..."

Words like "historic" and "unprecedented" are the two big ones in play here.

It preys on the raw ego that we ALL have.

...

No sir, that crowd was not already there waiting for them to land where they did...

What if the winds had pushed their "capsule" to land just 50ft in any direction? What if that direction was the same as the crowd? That'd be a lot of smushed journalists... (or extra's, whatever)

- That seems like a lot of reporters & camera crews. Lots of camera flashes!

It should be EASY to find coverage of this same event from multiple news agencies, aka multiple canera angles...

Right? Riigghhhttt??

I'll stop there, but believe me when I say I can feel the psyop just pumping thru this whole thing...

I'm happy to write a part 2 lol

IF they actually did go way way up there, then I will applaud them & be happy for them!

I just remain skeptical for now...
