King Charles III Coronation Medal

I don't know the name. But we all know the type!

Rather unfair to poor Captain Mainwaring.

Wow. Just ... wow.
I don’t think I've read a narrative filled with so much self pity in a long time. Not sure if that putz in Honourary material or not. Sniveling about JRs getting the medal and not him. Maybe he's new, because if he thinks that a gimme provides him some sort of status, someone should tell him we don’t normally even give them a second look.

I wouldn't oppose HCol, et al, automatically receiving them, as long as they weren't being taken away from someone else. There are probably 200-300 of them across the entire forces. HCol's open doors for units and individual members that might not have otherwise been open. I have been very fortunate in the ones that my unit has had. I'm sure that there have been a few Herbert Sobels.

Was this posted publicly? I hope the unit he is with decides that it is time to replace him. I can't imagine how I would feel if my HCol said this.

If I was the CDS, there would be a CANFORGEN going out stripping him of his appointment; and the MPs would be showing up at his door to collect all military and unit property.

I think he is a bit confused between HCol's and Colonel-in-Chief's. HCol are not representatives of the Crown. The reference to why we salute them is below, which in this case, I suppose that we are saluting the rank, as opposed to the King's Commission.

"Compliments are formal marks of respect and courtesy, i.e. salutes. Because of the rank worn, “Honoraries” will be saluted. As Honorary Colonels and Lieutenant Colonels are filling the same role, saluting between them is minimal when they are together at a gathering. However, when in public, it is correct to offer a salute to the higher rank."

I didn’t grow up dreaming of military service. The Canadian Forces wasn’t even on my radar until I was approached and asked to serve as an Honorary Colonel. I made different choices in life ...

He sounds like a real catch.

The only Google hit on the title is this thread. I suspect it's an email from a self-centered asshole... If buddy wants a medal, figure out a way to remain as an honorary for twelve years.
I wonder if this full email (including the person's name) could accidentally get leaked somewhere?
