I did a search and wasnt able to find anything specific about this...  I leave to BMQ on june 16th... Its coming up fast and I want to know if there is a few things that I should pick up that would make life easier... I dont mean Gucci kit... Im not gonna go and be a new recruit kit slut quite yet lol... Anyways so far I have thought of the following:

Insoles
Q-tips
Baby Wipes
Foot powder
Polypro Socks
Bug Juice

1)Should I pick up a good tool/knife... Not one of those rambo things but like a swiss/utility knife?
2)Are some combat gloves a good purchase?
3)Ive heared about Vibram Soles.. where can you get those and why would they be good?
4)Any other clothing or goods that would make passing inspection easier... Ive heared some tricks like having doubles of everything, anyone care to expand on that idea?

By the way im doing the whole deal this summer... BMQ and SQ so im gonna be gone for the long haul any info would be great...

buy some dr.shols  gel insoles

Baby Wipes -- not really.. u only stay in the field for max 2 nights...

Foot powder -- ask your unit

1)Should I pick up a good tool
get a gerber from the ASU. it's free

Check the Recruiting FAQ on this site.  There's a big list of stuff.

Um, I take it you went on a weekend BMQ. On the Summer BMQ you spend a week in the field.

a field message pad (FMP) is quite handy as well. Also A lint roller for your berret will come in hany and lots of sugar candys for those late nights lol

Do NOT do that. Instructors can and will mooch them off you like crazy!

When you get there just talk to the guys and gals who're a few weeks ahead of you. They'll fill you in on all the little tricks and stuff, but here are a few just off the top of my head:

To get the bottom of you boots black, clean the mud and stuff off then spray them with hairspray. Some people will use boot polish, but that will mark up your floor and be a pain in the ass to clean.

Swiffer mops are awsome for picking up dust. Go over your cubicle floor, window sill, and every other flat surface with one in the morning before inspection.

Get yourself into a routine and develop some work habits. I had a rough time with this, but after a few weeks I had something like this worked out: I'd get home from supper, throw my stuff in the wash right away. Then before anything else gets done, MAKE A FRIGGEN LIST of things that needed to be done (i.e. boots, weapon, iron shirts, ect.). Then I'd cross things off as they got done. Its time management for dummies.

I never bothered with having a second shave kit, but i did have "inspection underwear" because I realized that boxers were too much of a pain to refold every night.

If you're a smoker, get some nicorette gum. During the field portion of my course, we were limited to one or two smokes a day. At one point, a MCPL decided to give us a five minute smoke break, but only 3 people were allowed to smoke at once. It was a sick joke, considering there were well over 15 people who hadnt had a smoke in 12 hours but it takes some serious teamwork to pass off half a smoke to let your buddy take a drag before the time's up. Anyways, If you do get nicotine gum, keep it on the downlow. These days I always have a pack whenever I go into the field because it doesnt violate light discipline.

There's also alot of other tricks that are pulled that I won't mention here because they will get you in trouble if you get caught. Just remember to watch out for your buddies. I hope that helps!!!

Ghost: Did you sew your underwear into a little inspection "package" or somthing?

On the subject of Vibrams...is a med chit required to wear them on BMQ/SQ?

Best Regards,

Chris

That should never happen.  I've never taken advantage of any of my students that way, and I've never known any other instructor who did either.  If there is an instructor out there who would abuse his rank in that fashion, then he should be shot with a ball of his own shit.

I laughed it up hard over that one!!

On the topic of tobacco, has anyone heard of someone using chewing tobacco at BMQ?

Hehe... no, I didnt do that. I just bought some briefs that were easier to fold then the boxers I actually wore. And yes, you need a chit to wear Vibrams.
