We got word today that all the LAV‘s leaving for WATC have to be topped up to 100% of the kit prior to leaving here. The problem is that most of them didn‘t come with most of the kit when we got them. The paperwork was done but that doesn‘t matter. We‘re talking stoves, lanterns, GPS, C-6 etc. that we have to take from our personel stash (keeping in mind we don‘t really have any of the above to spare). :fifty:

This is all part of Whole Fleet Management.  The idea is that when you go to the Canadian Manoeuvre Centre, you don't ned to bring any kit with you.

Welcome to the 'big picture' CFL.

Imagine leaving every operational piece of kit you own (as a Bn) in theater.  Then try and conduct training and courses upon your return.

'Think big picture, Son' (has to be said with a strong southern drawl or pompous british accent for dramatic effect) ;D

No offense, Sir.  Just taking the piss.

Now, if you would all kindly repeat after me A - T - O - F.

All fine and good but when the powers that be expect you to be doing Cmbt in 6 months with now LAV's, no trucks etc I have to shake my head.  Having all the kit in Wainright is a god idea but frankly we don't have the kit to give up.

Each Bn will keep a Coy's worth of kit & everyone will share it.

Realists will see than this will mean even less training time and less operator familiarity with equipment.

We can look forward to more vehicle accidents on the future BTEs.

Hmm. So where will the rest of the LAV coys be? 6 with the six mech bns, 6 (?) at CMTC permanently, 3 overseas on ops "permanently"...is that how it will work? Where will the others be, or is that all of them? I'm trying to figure out the logic behind this. Cost savings on movement of vehicles, I suppose.

The army isn't very logical  ;)
