Hi all,

What is everyone's thoughts for members who've already burned all annual and family obligation days and it's only September? Now what about situations between now till March 31: they call in sick, their kids are sick, they have appointments. What is your give? Do you give 1+ sick days automatically, give 2 short, always provide admin time for RVs? Just want to do the best for our members but be fair. Plus, I'm jaded and may need to change my old way views. Thanks all.

If theyve been allowed to burn all their annual thats a leadership failure. Christmas leave minimums should have been protected.

If the member looks like they're abusing call in days, order them to the CDU, no more phone ins.

You go to work everyday until April 1st.

One year I “burned” through all my leave, except a few for Xmas break, before Nov 1st. The world didn’t end.

Yea I don't understand how their supervisor would have approved them burning up the last of their leaving knowing that Christmas usually requires 2-6 days (depending on unit and the members desires).

And how did they actually use all 5 "family obligation days" (actually called "Short Leave(Family-related obligations)"? For many of those occasions for which that leave is warranted, supervisors simply "let their members go". I don't think I've ever seen or heard of people using/receiving this type of leave.

What's "admin time for 'RV'?

There is no entitlement to call in sick. Leadership can order a subordinate to sick bay.

We let people get away with this too much.

This is an easy fix.

If a soldier doesn't have enough annual leave to take off 2 or 3 weeks at Christmas then they can simply go to work.

Lots of Canadians work over Christmas.
Not so easy. Some units literally lock their doors for two weeks during which period the members still needed 1 day of annual leave to take those two weeks off.

What's stopping a unit from having said member with no leave being responsible to open and close the building during those two weeks, or whatever days they have to work? You could even have them show up for PT then dismiss themselves for the day afterwards if you're feeling particularly giving.

What's PT? Asking for a navy friend.

Side note, is there security on ships in port? If so who's responsible for it?
