I am currently on my DP1 in Meaford until 16 December. I am in the reserves and my mother is being detained for a while adn my little sister is at home with my friend. i'm going to have to pay the rent and all the bills and I think I'm going to have to return to Hamilton for this. If I need leave for a day or two does anyone think this will be a problem? If not how do I go about requesting leave, do I just write a memo??
Any advice/help would be greatly appriciated.

I'd talk to the padre, he can help with anything (most of the time) And in your situation it sounds like he should be able to help, Depends on how many days you'd like off and your circumstance you might get it. Either your padre or section commander is your best bet and go from there

My two cents

I know where I work, you can ask for compassionate leave in certain circumstances.   Put the memo up through the chain of command as the only person allowed to give it is the CO of the unit you are attached to on course.   Make sure the memo is detailed and understandable, put any faxes, doctor's notes, etc. as attachments in back of it, they help with credibility.

It is frustrating how people always seem to point members to the Padre first when most OCs, SSMs, etc. are accomodating enough to accept a memo and get it approved.   Remember, worst case scenario is that they say no, then you can move on to the Padre if it's urgent enough!

Good Luck

Oops, I forgot to mention, depending on what portion of your course you are on, don't be suprised if you get recoursed or RTU due to missed classes.  Try to ensure that the schedule permits the time you want to take off.  If you show that you are trying to work with "them", "they" will work with you getting you the leave you need.  (You scratch their back and they scratch yours).

What I fail to understand is why you are asking us when you should be talking to your course staff in the first place.

Scenario:

Where are you going soldier?

Oh, I am going home because the guys on army.ca said it would be okay.

WTF has this army come to?

Although he should be talking to his course staff, and I would hope that he has..

He is simply asking for some input from the experienced members of this forum. This happens on a daily basis here, people are frequently asking for input/advice/comments.

I don't think that he was asking for permission from us, but more so looking for an opinion.

Blunt, I know when I did my RegF DP1 INF there was a colleague of mine who required a day or two off to take care of some administrative things back at home, and he had no trouble getting the time off, as it DID NOT interfere with any critical POs or critical training. Talk to your course staff if you haven't, and talk to the padre and get something worked out.

Best of luck.

Really?  I didn't know that.  Thanks.

I see that you are a little off today.  You never mentioned tea once in that conversation.  ;D

Alrite. Well thank you everyone for the advice I will tell my staff I am seeing the Padre to help me with the memo and gatering of any extra papers I may require. I'll make sure not to tell them ARMY.CA gave me permission. ;D
