Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

A bit of a head scratcher. This would service a massive chunk of the countries population (~7,777,205 Canadians).

The seven stops mandated by the federal government are: Toronto, Peterborough, Ottawa, Laval, Que., Montreal, Trois-Rivieres, Que., and Quebec City.

The proposed network would host 72 trains a day running on dedicated electric tracks at speeds of up to 300 km/h, slashing travel times. It would make for a three-hour trip between Toronto and Montreal and less than one hour between Montreal and Ottawa.

This after all the banging he's done about getting projects started.

I see the early Via train enroute from Montreal to Toronto pretty much every morning. Tons of empty seats in each car because it's reliably late. Maybe fix this and boost ridership before dropping billions on a new line.

Lots of good money can't fix bad management ;)

Moving from shared to dedicated lines, with half the travel time would be a game changer.

There's a huge group of folks opposed to the project. Lots of expropriated land is required. Construction isn't even supposed to start by the end of the decade. How much are tickets going to cost if the rail project needs $90B CAD before the overruns start???
