Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

China is facing a trade war with the US. It needs to open up other avenues.

There might be some openings on the horizon... or not

China will remove canola tariffs if Canada scraps EV levies: ambassador

Youth unemployment remains very high...
Not particularly useful without a sharp separation between "youth in high school" and "youth out of high school". What is it about people who do these things who insist on muddling such sharply obvious group distinctions? Lack of perspicacity, or number-padding to grind axes?

Better idea, drop canola tariff or we cut thermal coal exports. See how happy the average Chinese citizen is when they cant heat their home this winter

Australia would fill the gap. Not sure we have leverage here.

Doubt it. Their competitive edge is in large part likely due to cheap labour costs.
Part of it for sure, but they also have access to cheap batteries. Batteries being the most expensive part of the EV, that in and of itself helps keep costs down.

Dump those cheap batteries on a boat, ship them to Vancouver, put them on a train to Ontario, and you still have a pretty cheap battery.

It would definitely cost more to produce, and thus sell at a higher price than in China, but if BYD is a legitimate company and not just a Chinese subsidy pig, it should still be the most affordable EV on the market, even if made in Canada.

Australia, Russia, Indonesia, Mongolia. Thermal or Metallurgical?

how many people does it take to build a car in China vs one in Canada I wonder?
No doubt cheaper labour is a part but how much more automation?

I would invite BYD/China to build in Canada
Invitations to a more trade-hostile, domineering, and imperially-minded geopolitical acknowledged foe are an irrational solution to dealing with an only slightly and sporadically trade-hostile, only annoyingly domineering, and not seriously imperially-minded neighbour and acknowledged ally.
