Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

PSAC warns federal budget could lead to 70,000 job cuts in the public service

I wonder how full Bruce Fanjoys inbox is.

“Pierre’s plan would cut 100,000 public service jobs over 10 years, at a time when we need all hands on deck to defend our country from Donald Trump’s trade war. Carleton, you deserve better. Monday is Election Day. Make your vote count.”

You've obviously never worked in the contract security field.
I didn’t say people don’t expect you to work. I’m just saying nobody questions the claim of shitting your brains out. What that means depends on what you do in life.

Anyone thinking that there would not be cuts, wasn’t paying attention.

I think there is a perception that the Tories would enjoy cutting and would do so without much forethought of where and how much. That also corresponds with a perception the Liberals being all angsty trying to figure out where and how much to cut. I think a lot of those area civil servants, while knowing cuts were coming, were not enjoying the prospect of Poilievre gleefully swinging that axe.

Absolutely. It was about who would be the best to handle it and how.

Fanjoy's words are very clear. "We need all hands on deck". He was clearly insinuating the Liberals wouldn't have cut any PS jobs.

Yes people should have known better but thats besides the point. Mr Fanjoy mislead people in Carlton Place to get their votes. He was preaching Poilievre cutting 100,000 jobs in 10 years. Instead the LPC is starting with 60,000 jobs in 2 or 3 years.

I'm not from Carlton Place so maybe there people there still think he's wonderful.

Carney doesn’t need to find 3 votes, he simply needs 3 MP’s on the other side to be out ‘sick’ or whatever.
It’s that simple.

MP's DO NOT have to be in Parliament to vote. They can vote remotely via a remote voting app since Mar 2021.

It is possible, I guess to be too sick to vote.

Pretty sure most people didn’t really believe that. I can only speak from my little corner of the PS world with a not insignificant amount of friends in the PS world across multiple departments. No matter who was going to win, cuts were coming.

No. PP took his riding for granted. Fanjoy ran better ground game. PP didn’t even run a ground game. A good chunk of his experienced team quit after the convoy support he showed. So while he was travelling the country his team was as effective as it used to be.

I was in his riding for a number of years and elections before they redrew the boundaries.

How many public service type do you think actually live in Carlton? It isn’t as high as you think.

Just a minor correction- three flipped votes
would do it; they’d bring the LPC count up to 172 vs 171. But if it’s just abstentions it would need to be six, to bring the opposition’s 174 down to 168, below the 169 the LPC are starting with.

I can practically hear the CPC and NDP off screen looking at each other saying “You do it.” followed by “no, fuck you, you do it.”

Thats not the message put out by your LPC last election.
Who cares. It’s not what people believed.

This is what PP proposed: Conservative platform pledges to 'trim bloated bureaucracy'

Sounds familiar eh?

I didn’t believe him either.
Disagreed. He was a party leader and had a lot to do
Disagree all you want. It’s a fact. He like everyone else including you and me thought he had no chance of losing that riding.
He did a very strong and aggressive campaign. And reaped the rewards.
He did. He saw a gap, and exploited it.
